Ryan Holiday on Voice and Video Texts (And He's Right)
Ryan's thoughts: If You Do This, You're A Monster Ryan is right. When voice and video text features started rolling out on my phone, I immediately thought "What use could I possibly have for this?" I still haven't figured it out. But Ryan has. It's to annoy...

This is good news. I had a Windows Phone last year. I only gave it up and went to an iPhone because of the inferior app support. For instance, Amazon's Kindle app, after a year of the device and several updates, still didn't allow me to highlight or make notes in a book; a feature I can't and won't live without.

But the phone platform itself, and Cortana as a virtual assistant, I found superior. Siri is kind of retarded and about 2 degrees about useless. There are some minor uses for her, but I generally never think about Siri.

I've always believed competition is good. Microsoft came out with a superior VA, and hopefully Apple will catch up.

I picked up a Microsoft Band yesterday, which has a MAJOR advantage over the Apple Watch:
You can actually buy it.

Yeah, I know, you can order the Apple Watch online. But when you still live in a crappy apartment like I do, you don't want to ship anything there. And coordinating with FedEx and UPS for delivery or pick up in store is a major inconvenience when Apple could have just manufactured enough of them to sell in store.

An article about how Microsoft could fix Windows Phone.

I had a Windows Phone last year. I went back to the iPhone as a Christmas present to myself. I liked the Windows Phone; it was a damn good phone. I had a Nokia 920 for a year, and the phone never slowed down. I can always feel an iPhone slow down when the new model comes out. It didn't happen with the Nokia.

The thing I think Microsoft could do to fix Windows Phone is: encourage app development. App support on Windows Phone (and even Windows 8.1) sucks. Sure, there are plenty of games. I don't play them. I left Windows Phone primarily because Kindle and Waze were never updated to be useful on the phone. I couldn't highlight or make notes in my Kindle books, which for me is a deal breaker. Also, WhisperSync didn't work.

And the podcast apps aren't very good. I finally found a semi-useful one toward the end of my Nokia 920 ownership. But it was barely functional.

I didn't care too much about the tiles other than they should have been made more useful. Windows Phone 8 relied on Live Tiles to convey information. They sucked. 8.1 brought with it a notification screen that was a little more useful.

I'm glad to see Apple is finally doing something to upgrade their Notes app. Since the beginning, it's been about as useful as Outlook Notes, which hasn't seen an update in far longer.

Can't A Man Just Order Electric Without An Upsell?
I'm moving next week. I need to arrange for utilities at the new place. So I called the power company. That experience wasn't too bad at first. It was at the end when things got ugly. First, the rep asked me if I wanted to hear about "green energy". I said ...

This is absolutely true. Information is so abundant and easy to find. It might require a little sifting, fact checking, and identifying fallacies, but it's easy and abundant.

This goes out to all those people who said "I didn't know."
