Downtown Disney's Festival of the masters was canceled this year due to construction. "Disney said ongoing construction at Disney Springs will make it difficult to hold the festival, which has grown to include both the Marketplace and Westside areas of Downtown Disney." -Baynews9

The company did not comment on the festival’s future. Downtown Disney is set to morph into Disney Springs in 2016.

"We appreciate the enthusiastic support we’ve received from the arts community, both locally and nationally, which has contributed to the long-running success of the Festival. Walt Disney World Resort is a strong supporter of the arts and we remain committed to nurturing the arts. We ask for your patience and understanding during this time of growth and look forward to building new memories with you at Disney Springs." posted on August 20th, 2014 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

Florida Chalk Artist Association usually hosts our annual meeting at FotM and yearly show. Decisions of an alternative fall meeting have yet to be made. A formal announcement will be made soon.

Artist of the Month: Nate Baranowski

"I started street painting at the University of Illinois creating chalk announcements on campus as a way to make a bit of money. The art form immediately grabbed my attention. It was quick, large, fleeting, and incredibly rewarding. I moved with my wife, Jill, to Tampa and discovered there were actually festivals and other people who were passionate about street painting too!

We participated in our first festival at Lake Worth in 2013 and haven’t looked back. When I’m not chalking, I’m working as a concept illustrator for a themed design company near Orlando.

Jill and I make up a great team. She assists in the chalking as well as pulling me away from a finished piece and making sure we are organized and ready for each festival. We have met so many great people in our one year on the street painting “circuit”. Not only do we look forward to a new subject matter each time, but also the familiar faces of friends we’ve made along the way!"
