All of this buzz about the holographic Tupac (http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2012/04/hologram-tupac-was-inevitable/255990/
) reminds me of a "Hip-hop Singularity" timeline that I wrote a long time ago. Some of the references are a little dated (e.g. who the hell is Nelly?).
The Hip-Hop Singularity
– Master P receives his PhD in computer science, becomes Doctor P.
– Doctor P starts a computational hip hop lab at Carnegie Mellon University and develops a framework for automated hip hop called Flynet.
– Doctor P mysteriously disappears.
– Rappers begin programming machines to write rhymes for them.
– The first time a rapper is dissed by an artificial MC.
– The global community mourns the death of Nelly.
– The first machine wins a freestyle battle, thereby passing the Kweli-Turing test.
– The last human rapper (Jay Z) retires.
– Hip-hop is now an instantaneous electronic process done exclusively over Flynet.
– Flynet becomes sentient.
– Flynet absorbs Def Jam, Cash Money, and No Limit Records.
– After a brief comeback tour, Jay Z is absorbed into Flynet.
– Ol’ Romeo (formerly Lil Romeo) sends an artificial MC back in time to kill his father, Master P.
– Flynet produces an army of Artificial MCs to wipe out the human race.
– The last human being dies.
– The Flynet afterparty.
– Flynet dispatches Artificial MCs to begin mining gold and platinum reserves on other planets.
– Artificial MCs shed their mechanical bodies and transcend into pure Cristal.
