The Descriptive Camera works a lot like a regular camera—point it at subject and press the shutter button to capture the scene. However, instead of producing an image, this prototype outputs a text de...

All of this buzz about the holographic Tupac (http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2012/04/hologram-tupac-was-inevitable/255990/) reminds me of a "Hip-hop Singularity" timeline that I wrote a long time ago. Some of the references are a little dated (e.g. who the hell is Nelly?).

The Hip-Hop Singularity

2011 – Master P receives his PhD in computer science, becomes Doctor P.

2012 – Doctor P starts a computational hip hop lab at Carnegie Mellon University and develops a framework for automated hip hop called Flynet.

2013 – Doctor P mysteriously disappears.

2016 – Rappers begin programming machines to write rhymes for them.

2017 – The first time a rapper is dissed by an artificial MC.

2018 – The global community mourns the death of Nelly.

2018 – The first machine wins a freestyle battle, thereby passing the Kweli-Turing test.

2020 – The last human rapper (Jay Z) retires.

2023 – Hip-hop is now an instantaneous electronic process done exclusively over Flynet.

2030 – Flynet becomes sentient.

2031 – Flynet absorbs Def Jam, Cash Money, and No Limit Records.

2032 – After a brief comeback tour, Jay Z is absorbed into Flynet.

2040 – Ol’ Romeo (formerly Lil Romeo) sends an artificial MC back in time to kill his father, Master P.

2042 – Flynet produces an army of Artificial MCs to wipe out the human race.

2043 – The last human being dies.

2044 – The Flynet afterparty.

2060 – Flynet dispatches Artificial MCs to begin mining gold and platinum reserves on other planets.

2101 – Artificial MCs shed their mechanical bodies and transcend into pure Cristal.

My favorite Seattle sticker artist is SHITbARF. Whenever I'm walking around, I always keep an eye out for SHITbARF stickers, and have been keeping a collection of the ones I've found. To quote SHITbARF, "It is fun to have fun."

One of my projects got accepted into the Interlife Crisis show at FICTILIS gallery! Come to the opening reception in Pioneer Square to see it, along with a bunch of other cool internet-related art!

"An infinite loop of questions from Yahoo Answers randomly paired and spoken by a computer as rhyming couplets. Dozens of girls doing the splits to the accompaniment of Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are” performed by a man who is definitely not Billy Joel. A woman creating a Photoshopped version of her own face as a mask, and then wearing it around. Dots per inch writ large. “Hypernatural airfitti”. An artist who will do whatever the internet tells her to do for fifteen minutes. Lady Gaga’s live Twitter feed translated into Morse code and beamed out to Pioneer Square. Tweets tagged “confession” broadcast out into the street. Abstract portraits created by translating Twitter posts into binary code that controls the output of a spinning LED. Drawings of photographs from the OkCupid profiles of people who have looked at the artist’s OkCupid profile which are then photographed being held by the artist while imitating the person’s facial expression and then emailed to the OkCupid member who posted the original photograph. The roles of World of Warcraft avatar and real-world player, switched. A woman on a screen whose mood is controlled by live CNN headlines. Elongated silk stoles consisting of four different-colored threads representing the nucleotides A,U,C, and G, woven in sequence to exhibit the full human mitochondrial genome. A printed directory of every internet domain beginning with the word “serious”. (Seriously.) A large, hand-cut carpet which reads “Rolling On the Floor Laughing”"
