It says "and still turned out OK". I think that may be up for debate.

So my daughter-in-law and her husband have relocated to Texas and arrived at our house last night.  I was a bit concerned because they have a Basset/OGKW mix and with our two dogs, I was afraid of territorial disputes.  It was worry wasted.  They get along fine.

Oh, what is the OGKW part of the mix?

OGKW = Only God Knows What.

So today they all went to the grocery store and I stayed home catching up on Reglue paperwork and other things when I captured this.  Poor guy has some supreme abandonment issues.  This is how he reacted when he realized that mommie and daddy left him.

This went on for 30 minutes.  He was just heartbroken.

Hey folks.  We've kicked of our 30 day fund raiser to insure that we have enough money to operate on for the next year.  Having been off work for more than a year, I wasn't able to insure our fund raising efforts were taken care of.

Please come take a look at our campaign page and donate if you can.  Even if it's only a couple of dollars, we can use your help.

We have some pretty cool perks for donors and more will be added as the campaign progresses.

Also, I would like to publicly thank +Diane Cobb +ron morris (https://plus.google.com/u/0/106937156107797315744) for producing our MP4 presentation.  It's folks like this that help us succeed.  You can see the slide video they created for us here:

From The Desk of - I Think We're Gonna Need A Bigger Lap.....

We are fortunate enough to have a celebrity donate hardware to Reglue from time to time.  It's most always really good stuff and we are lucky to have this person as a donor.

This is a 20 inch Pavilion HDX Entertainment Notebook (AKA Dragon) with an Nvidia chipset and a dual core 2.6 gig processor.

It sits next to a 32 ounce drinking glass just to give you an idea of scale.

it has 8 gigs of RAM and both a 128 gig SSD drive and a traditional 500 gig SATA Drive.  It came with Vista Ultimate on it so it has just been upgraded to Linux Mint 15 Cinnamon.

I think referring to this machine as a "laptop" or "notebook" is a bit of a stretch, but we're sure we can find a fitting home for it this summer.  We have a few of our kids entering college this year so with the added horsepower, we'll probably save it for someone who will need the increased CPU and RAM capabilities.

Off topic, but I had a laptop like that and a green plastic beaker like that?
For a second I thought it was a photo I took.

This is why I am glad to see more stable businesses sponsoring key Linux apps.  My buddy in California loves this app and he emailed me over two months ago asking if I had heard anything...he's not been heard from in months.

And so it is with FOSS...if no one picks up the development, another great Linux application burns itself out way too soon.

I am just worried if the man is ok. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTUyNDk

Yeah Zach...in a completely new environment without the cornerstones of his life....it makes sense that he would be frightened or sad.

Ken, I would not even sweat this. This is a comment made by someone who has a small mind and couldn't even conceive of the effort required to give let alone assist those who do the work. This person probably has issues seeing past anything that doesn't benefit them in one way or another. In other words, someone who would donate blood to the Red Cross and expect to be paid for it. As soon as Hillary and I get down there I will assist in anyway I can.

Two recent donations to Reglue, both high end quad cores with 500 gig drives and 4 gigs of RAM each.  Donor said she thought the motherboards were bad.  Turned out an update had hosed both of them (win7 professional) and were blue screening.  I called her back in good faith and told her these machines were fine but she thanked me and said they had already been replaced.

I love it when that happens.

Replacing the stock onboard vid chip with an Nvidia Gforce 9800GT.

I've received a few donors over the years from people who had software malfunctions. They give them to me to fix, and run to Walmart the same day and buy a new one before I even look at it. When you tell them it's an easy fix, they almost always reply "I wanted a new computer anyway, you can keep it." Works for me.

Good news is always good to get.  A few years ago, Reglue presented a young man a ThinkPad laptop with which to enter college.  Sanjit Patel entered college at the age of 16...a studious kid with a dry wit and an almost ferocious focus.  He is a first generation US born citizen.  His parents immigrated here, fleeing from the violence in and around Kashmir.  Violence that cost him his uncle and two cousins.

I promised Sanjit that if he was accepted to graduate school, we would replace the old T60 Lenovo we gave him upon entering the University of Texas in Austin.

I got the email from him about 2 hours ago.  He has been accepted to the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford, where he will study geophysics.  Arrangements will be made to have Sanjit's computer shipped to him.  He will enter Stanford with a 15.6" Gazelle Professional from System 76.  We made arrangements for three possible graduate student laptop grants a few years back but Sanjit is the only one who has been accepted for Graduate study.

It feels good to know that we can make good on our promise...a promise we could not have kept if it wasn't for the amazing support Reglue gets from the Linux and Open Source communities.

The actual cost of the laptop is being reimbursed by a group of "RockHound" professors at UT/Austin.

I am simply writing this at the behest of Sanjit Patel to thank you for helping him achieve his dreams.

And from the directors and volunteers of Reglue, thank you for helping us do what we do.

Putting Technology Into The Hands Of Tomorrow
Introduction
Reglue exists to bridge the Digital Divide by providing computers, internet service and training to financially disadvantaged kids in Central Texas.

Since 2005, our organization has placed over 1500 computers into the homes of kids who need them most.  You can help by putting us out of work.  Help us get technology into their hands...

The Hands of Tomorrow.
