I wrote something about the New Aesthetic. Read. or Not.
I wrote this after Bruce Sterling’s original New Aesthetic manifesto (which is itself a response to James Bridle’s New Aesthetic tumblr blog and theory). Some of these are ideas that I had already...

Check it out: Marius Watz reponds to the BBC's article on Algorithms and Kevin Slavin offers a great reply. Really great discussion here.
Marius Watz originally shared:

Completely misguided BBC article implies that algorithms are self-aware AIs roaming the world like digital Godzillas, which completely loses sight of the fact that it is the people who design and use these algorithms (and the lack of regulation of same) we should be worried about.

+Jer Thorp was right, +Kevin Slavin's cryptic TED comment about algorithms co-evolving with us was a bad move, undoing the good work the rest of his talk accomplished. Most people will readily believe that computers are really little demonspawn sent to control their lives. Uh-oh, I see Arnold Schwarzenegger coming down the street.

This is such an awesome visualization project. These cinematic deconstructions provide a new way of analyzing and comparing the styles of individual directors or specific genre films.

These generative works are awesome. He appropriates Hollywood action scenes and processes them through openFrameworks to generate Pollock-like paintings
Providing a cultural link between Roland Emmerich and abstract expressionism.

My dad is a machinist at the family business begun by my grandfather and he uses massive programmable machines for 2 1/2 D CNC Milling. Do I know anyone who would want access to these machines for any kind of projects? Art, design or otherwise?

I love Qualoya's work. He processes classic artwork through custom software to transform it into digital abstraction
Rubens and Van Dyck get transformed into rippling triangulated digital landscapes.

Fat Lab's Golan Levin's new project QR Stenciler & QR Hobo Codes exhibits an interesting and funny use of the increasingly ubiquitous tool
An open source QR code stenciler and code repository from FAT Lab herald the new age of "hobo signs."
