This sign in the Etosha Lodge Shabeen (pub) summarizes Gondwana's philosophy. I've learned first hand this week that Gondwana is not a "What" company . They are "Why" company. Their vision is to move the whole country forward and it shows in everything they do. Anyone can build a patio and rent a bed but the Gondwana story is truly inspiring.
Caring goes into every aspect of their operation and it shows in the faces of the employees and the faces of their guests.
I'm gettin' a little choked up maybe!

Hi Everyone.

I'm a week away from embarking on maybe one of the coolest trips I've ever taken.  I'm heading to Namibia, Africa, for the first time to support an amazing tourism company called Gondwana.  They say Namibia has all of Africa in it and The Gondwana Collection own 14 lodges around this diverse country that  share a unique aspect of the African geography.

I'll be traveling to three of these lodges and speaking in the capital city of Windhoek to support Gondwana and their amazing Customer Service Training Academy. I love that they are committed to giving every tourist who visits with them a world class experience and honoured they asked me to come there to help in that.

I'll be giving updates along the way so keep an eye out for that and perhaps think about coming back with me next year as part of a tour group. I have a feeling I'm going to feel at home there. I already know I appreciate their taste in music (see if you can pick out the melody in this music video made by their employees).

I'm stoked. Stay tuned for more.

Cheers,
Dave

Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has passed away. I was an avid reader of his books and an admirer of his ability to inspire me with ideas and new perspectives for over 20 years.

Without ever knowing what I'd write about if I got the chance, I would occasionally wonder what it would be like to be published by Hay House and meet Wayne one day.

Imagine my shock when I found out that Wayne was a fan of United Breaks Guitars, saw this not as a story of confrontation but rather one of non-confrontation, and that he felt I should write a book about it.

Through a third party, without ever meeting or speaking to me, Wayne persuaded the publisher of Hay House to take a phone call from me. In a 20 minute chat with Reid Tracy, I had the framework of a book deal sealed and had not even written an outline; not a single word.

Without Wayne Dyer, I might never have written my book and would certainly not have rubbed shoulders with so many amazing thought leaders at Hay House, including having lunch with Wayne in San Jose a few years back. It would essentially be the only time I ever met him. I'm grateful I had a chance to say "thank you" in person.

I was saddened to hear the news of his passing but if anyone had an insight into there being something more and something better when we leave this life, it was Wayne Dyer; few people living in my lifetime have given so many the gift of hope that he might have been right.

Thank you Wayne and God bless.

Dave

Last day in Namibia. We fly home tonight. Yesterday I did two presentations to roughly 600 business, government and tourism leaders here and they are committed to working together to create real momentum for a better economy for the country. The capital, Windhoek, is modern and well positioned to lead development across the country.
I can't say enough good things about Namibia . We'll be back!! +Safari Hotels Namibia +Gondwana Collection Namibia

A full day of seeing big animals in the wild yesterday at Etosha National Park, followed by a "sundowner" (sunset cocktails) on the panoramic deck of the Gondwana Etosha Lodge. We ended the day at the lodge's Shabeen (South African style pub) and a great campfire sing-along with the bands The Professors and the Tosha Boys (seen here).

This entire trip has been one of the most unique and meaningful of my life. Namibia is a special place.

When I released my Perfect Blue album in 2008, it included a song I co-wrote with Grammy winner Jon Vezner. Here is a live version of that song from this year at Folk Alliance International in Kansas City. Enjoy!
