"Say It Loud – I'm Black and I'm Proud !!!"

Is a musical version of Stokely Carmichael's "Black Power" speech of October 1966. In Carmichael's words, "it is the word 'black' that bothers people in this country, and that's their problem, not mine."

Performed by James Brown and written with his bandleader Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis in 1968. The song held the #1 spot on the R&B singles chart for 6wks, & peaked @ #10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Growing up, I used to be like Michael Evans off of Good Times... extremely militant and pro-black. I used to say:
"We will never see a 'black man' living in the 'white man's house' (aka the white house).

& People have their opinions about the legitimacy of who's actually running the country or calling the shots. But outside of the rhetoric coming from any of us, the image alone has been such a great inspiration to so many; especially to black people. We were the down trodden. The rejected and despised. Our history in this country has not been easy since the time we came off the boat, in chains.

Now we have come to the climax or the conclusion of one chapter, and @the cusp of a new one, per Donald Trump. Never before was there a time in modern history or in the past have we had a clear-cut image of black people residing @1600 Pennsylvania Ave unless they were maids or butlers.

But for the last 8yrs, it was certified and official. A black man as President of the United States of America. Barack and Michelle Obama, along with their family, may go down as one of the greatest moments in black history. He was the nation's president, but he was our love child. This may very well be a once-in-lifetime experience. Wow, what a ride. Wish it could last forever. But I am grateful for this moment. Thank you. #TheOBAMAS
