One of our eastern gray squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis), with a distinct 'ginger' tail. Squirrels are the cutest.

This is one of two Carolina wrens that frequent our habitat. This little guy (gal?) likes to hide out in the untidy compost bin.

Hoping to catch a glimpse of the critter that's living in this small backyard brush pile, the trap camera captured this curious little fox instead. Keep well, my friend.

Our native common persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) is a favorite tree of mine. Why? Because the fruit are eaten by a wide variety of birds and mammals and because the tree has such a pretty habit. Persimmon is adaptable to many growing conditions.

A first time sighting of a magnificent black-and-gold bumble bee (Bombus auricomus). According to bugguide.net, auricomus means "with golden hair." These huge and cool looking bumbles have been happily collecting nectar on our wild bergamot (Monarda fistulosa).
