We had a group of five at Dino's Grotto because we wanted a BYO that served Italian. A more challenging search than one would think around DC. That being said, Dino's has a very reasonable corkage fee of 7.50 a person for unlimited bottles. And that came in handy that night. Beyond that, they were very accommodating, the staff was excellent, and the food was delicious. The prosciutto is melt in your mouth good. A great spot with friends, good atmosphere. Definitely worth the visit.

Glad you had a good time. We love it when folk bring good bottles to enjoy at the Grotto. We do offer free corkage on Monday and Tuesday.

Great food and personable service, just a tad pricey (but not excessive). The owner does indeed drop by, which is a nice touch. We enjoyed the Lasagnette, Peach Spritzer, and Tiramisu, all of which were delicious. Recommend!

Dino's has long been a favorite in my family back when they were in Cleveland Park, and we're excited that they've moved to their new location in Shaw. Whether for a special occasion, a weeknight dinner, or drinks and snacks at the bar, Dino's Grotto reliably delivers wholesome, seasonal food and a great selection of interesting wines and cocktails. Dino's has a casual, welcoming atmosphere that's fostered by knowledgeable and friendly servers alongside owners Dean and Kay who are often there to check in on tables and ensure everybody's happy. The menu offers a variety of dishes to delight anyone from vegetarians to carnivores, salad grazers and pasta lovers. Dishes change frequently to highlight the best of local and seasonal produce and meats, and are prepared in delicious combinations that are still simple and rustic enough to make sure the quality ingredients shine. My family has a couple diners who often nitpick when eating at a restaurant, yet they've always been happy at Dino. That's a testament to Dino's attentive and caring service, as well as the kitchen's reliability and talent. There are more traditional comfort food options like the excellent burger or "freeform lasagnette" (think plates lasagne made fresh to order instead of one big casserole). These Italian-American standbys are joined on the menu by more unique takes on dishes such as the eggplant parmesan that is made lighter and more fresh thanks to grilling instead of frying, "bistecca" chophouse selections of steak and occasionally venison or wild boar, fish and seafood. There are even holiday dinners for occasions such as the Jewish holidays and Thanksgiving. The bar offers craft beers, creative cocktails ranging from light and refreshing to boozy and strong. And the wine list is particularly diverse, with many options available by the glass -- it's an excellent opportunity to try something new and unusual like "orange wines" and wines made by idiosyncratic vintners. The bartenders, servers, and Dean himself are always happy to guide you through the offerings, and recommend something to meet your tastes and moods. Plus, there are lots of deals for happy hour, and a bottomless brunch. So Dino's Grotto is a favorite for foodies and drinkers alike. Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that their desserts are awesome. Tiramisu, gelato, chocolate or fruit tortes...they're all delicious and a treat worth saving room for. Every visit is a chance to try gratifying dishes from the past, or sample something new and seasonal. And as I mentioned, Dino's has always made me and my family and friends happy every time.

We had dinner there Sun night (10/12/14) and it was amazing!! We were a large group and the service was impeccable, and the food was even better. Some of us were vegetarians and the vegetable appetizers were out of this world. Main dishes ordered ranged from mussels to porter braised brisket everybody raved and shared. Intimate yet festive surroundings, responsive staff and world class rustic Italian can't ask for more!!

I was so excited when Dino's moved into the neighborhood as Dino's Grotto! Its a wonderful neighborhood spot with delicious yet unpretentious food at a great price. The owner Dean always stops by all the tables to say hello and see how people are enjoying their meal or glass of wine, and is always available for a suggestion. You know he genuinely cares about his customers and the food he serves. The food is fresh and locally sourced. They really take advantage of how delicious produce is when its actually in season. I love taking out of town guests to Dino's Grotto because its a true neighborhood place with character.

Thanks for the Grotto love. We love being a part of the north end of Shaw and seeing its real development as a vibrant little neighborhood. Just a note, we strive to keep our seasonal picks year round. Now we have just as much local produce as during the summer, just its now Kales, great local potatoes, Brussels sprouts etc. Next up will be the root veggies and things grown in winter hothouses like greens. We only resort to the commercial produce supply chain when we have to! See you again soon!

I've only been here for brunch. The food is quite impressive. For a fixed price, you get a choice of a main and two starters. They offer bottomless Bloody Mary's (made w/house summer heirloom tomato essence, local veggies, 21+ spices) or Mimosa's (house squeezed oj & real prosecco di treviso) for $12. They don't skimp on the bottomless part either. Our glasses were kept filled the entire time. I would recommend giving this place a try!

Thanks for the Brunch love. FYI, for the $27, you get the starter and main and the choice of a bottomless bloody, bellini or mimosa. In the Grotto Bar you can have 2 cocktails instead of the bottomless for our "Hangover Brunch"

Had a great brunch at Dino's Grotto. But before launching into the food and service, let me add that approaching Dino's Grotto at its small but accessible commercial row house in Shaw reminded me of the best of often spectacular Italian restaurants in so many neighborhoods throughout the NY metro region. Often smallish somewhat hidden properties in various neighborhoods where the cooking and dining is simply superb. Dino's Grotto in Shaw matches that quality. Its one block off of U Street and 1 and 1/2 blocks from the Shaw Metro. If I lived in the neighborhood I'd go there often. On the other hand its easily accessible, certainly by Metro. Parking is a little tough but its dramatically close to Downtown and the Convention Center. Now for Brunch let's start at the top. For someone who has had many a Bloody Mary, the one at Dino's was easily the spiciest, most appealing Bloody I've had over decades. I could easily see hanging at the Bar, catching a long brunch with the TV on Football games. That is an appealing Sunday. For dishes I had the San Benedetto, Eggs Benedict Dino's style with prosciutto being a tasty element with vague herb flavors. Very tasty rendition. Additionally we had the meatballs. Oooh la la. Not only were they tasty but they came in a wondrous sauce. That sauce served double duty using it on the healthy breads supplied with the meal, and serving as a variation on dipping the bread in olive oil and spices. Service at the bar was friendly and prompt. All in all a delightful meal. I'll be back.

The Bitches say: B-. The décor and presentation is not great, but Dino knows his ingredients and whips up some pretty amazing dishes under the ancient ambiance. Read the full review on our site!
