If you want to see me, looking stupid but sounding intelligent on an international TV channel with a reach of 100's of millions worldwide... This will also give you a bit more of an idea about what I write about on Artemis.bm.

More local graffiti, this time it might only make sense to those from the Brighton or Sussex area (actually)

And for anyone who knows what Mutoid Waste is... This reminds me a lot of their work. Found it randomly near an old quarry

I'm so busy these days with Artemis.bm that I don't get as much time as I'd like to write on my personal website. I got a little inspired the other day and wrote about something which is close to my heart but way outside my field of expertise...

Hope this helps stop brands wasting money in activities that don't return engagement!

"The Federal Trade Commission holds a workshop today that will look at how companies should disclose incentives on social-media "platforms that allow only short messages or a simple sign of approval," says FTC advertising practices chief Mary Engle

Incentives for consumers to "like" companies on Facebook fall into a "gray area" that depends on whether the number of likes a company has influences consumers in choosing their products, Engle says. The FTC's advertising endorsement guidelines require compensation to be disclosed, as with Twitter hashtags such as "#paid," she says"

My weekend (in Dorset and the New Forest) involved walking, eating, horses, rhododendrons and a nice sunset. How about yours?

Stunning weather in Dorset today. 8 mile walk in the heat. Dinner tonight at a seafood cafe on the seafront who have their own oyster beds :-)

Story
Introduction
Been working in the web industry for getting on for 16 years beginning as a designer/developer at a startup creating groundbreaking stuff for its time such as online derivatives trading platforms, online brand monitoring tools, insurance claims estimators, very early blogging (like before people called them blogs) and many websites.

I moved on to head up all development for one of the largest insurance brokers in the world for a few years and continued to develop, manage and operate a successful portal on a niche are of reinsurance.

Then moved into the consumer facing world of online travel, heading up ecommerce development (and a lot more) for Virgin Holidays. Introduced them to the importance of user experience and conversion optimisation and in my time they doubled their online sales.

After that I went to Lastminute.com heading up their UI and frontend development across the UK, Europe and Asia. Managed a team of many, across four time zones, and had input into pretty much everything that was planned from a product point of view. Also liased and worked with Travelocity colleagues on projects to merge tech across the group.

In my time I've gained experience across the spectrum of online delivery and marketing mechanisms. I've created and managed web portals, managed the delivery of multi-million pound e-commerce projects, delivered massive conversion rate uplifts, implemented corporate branding projects, worked with tiny start-ups and massive corporates and created many successful online marketing campaigns.

Now, I work on stuff I find interesting. I consult to a number of online travel start-ups, work in an advisory capacity with a major travel player, consult to ecommerce players and advise start-ups in many sectors.

I also run an increasingly succesful portal/news/blog site on the niche world of reinsurance risk transfer to the capital markets. This is increasingly becoming a bigger focus for me.

I sit on the board of advisors for a startup insurance-linked investments hedge fund, helping them to understand the sectors opportunities with my 10+ years of experience reporting on the space.

I am a managing partner and founder of CatVest Petroleum Services LLC, an offshore and onshore energy risk modelling firm based in the U.S.

To top it all off I'm currently investigating a move into some other interesting areas... :-)

From a consulting point of view, my mantra is that I want to help you create user experiences that deliver your business goals rather than simply delivering your requirements with no thought for your customers, so if you like the sound of that and fancy some support with your web activities with an eye on strategic improvement and growth get in touch.
