Photo: Facebook adopted an unusual strategy for keeping its Prineville computers chilly, taking advantage of the region's dry air to deploy an evaporative cooling system that uses less energy. It sucks in dry air, sprays it with mist, and blows it back out after it's been warmed. If data centers get more efficient, energy watchdogs say, their impact will be muted.
