TriMet’s launches its new Tickets app from Globesherpa on Wednesday morning. As if the fare-machine-in-your-pocket technology hasn’t already received a crazy amount of press and positive reviews, the struggling transit agency has been able to scrape up the money to throw a launch party at Portland State University’s Urban Center Plaza, complete refreshments and live music.

The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon and the Audubon Society of Portland will host a tour of the city's coolest catios on Sunday: http://orne.ws/175ZCDm

The groups hope to inspire cat owners to either build or purchase their own outdoor cat structure, known as a “catio.”

I hope this is kosher to offer up. I've created a FB page for my weekly consumer issues column in The Oregonian called Complaint Desk.

I won't bore you with the usual "scams" and fear-inducing warnings, but will offer heads-up for new twists on cons hitting the Portland area, tips on how to solve common consumers issues and, if you have 'em, I'll answer your questions directly.

Moonstruck Chocolate Co. needs liquor licenses to sell newest truffle collection: http://orne.ws/14dZIZN

The new collection includes nine truffles that incorporate liqueurs from five Oregon craft distillers. The flavors include Bendistillery Crater Lake Pepper Vodka Truffle, Clear Creek Distillery Oregon Apple Brandy Truffle and House Spirits Distillery Coffee Liqueur Truffle.

Portland Aquarium logs 200 marine animal deaths; Humane Society investigates: http://orne.ws/1eZDPyJ

More than 200 marine animals died this spring at the Portland Aquarium from starvation, infection, high temperatures, animal-on-animal attacks and unknown causes, according to a death-log obtained by The Oregonian. Among the casualties were bamboo sharks, sea horses, garden eels, sea stars, crabs and dozens of fish.

The purpose of the federal provision is to protect against the possibility of financial fraud, since the guardian who develops a care plan has the ability to hire himself or herself as the paid caregiver.

However, Oregon has allowed guardians to be paid caregivers for more than 10 years under various federal waivers, reportedly without issue.
