We love October in Sidmouth. There’s nothing quite like a good autumn day – when the sun is shining bright and you can go outside wrapped up warm to enjoy the coastal air on your skin. It wakes you up and makes you glad you got outdoors.

Not only do we love the crisp weather, but there’s plenty on during this time of year. If you’re trying to plan your October getaway to Sidmouth but haven’t pulled together your itinerary yet, then here’s what we think you should be getting up to.

This year, our very own Sidmouth will be paid a visit by some of the biggest and best names in cycling in stage six of the Tour of Britain!

It’s not the first time that the Tour of Britain has included Devon on its race route, and it’s easy to see why the organisers have decided to include our patch again. If you’re feeling inspired to get on your bike in advance of the race, then here are a couple of routes we think you might enjoy.

There are certain things about Sidmouth that you can expect – glorious beaches, fabulous local food and vistas that will make you never want to leave. And, although it perhaps can’t be guaranteed, we do like to think that we get rather good weather here too.

While all of those things are fantastic and certainly good enough reasons to visit our coastal getaway in themselves, there are a few things that you might not have known about Sidmouth and what it has to offer. Here’s our guide to the area’s galleries and museums, for those who want to add a little culture to their seaside escape.

WE'RE TELEGRAPH RECOMMENDED!

We are now Telegraph recommended! A fantastic review of Sidmouth Harbour Hotel with a Telegraph Expert rating of 8/10 following The Telegraph Travel's recent stay!

"This contemporary spa hotel is in the unlikely setting of Sidmouth, an old-fashioned Regency town in East Devon that mainly attracts the over-50s. The views of the Jurassic coastline from its restaurant and terrace are some of the best coastal vistas you’ll find in the country."

So we know that the toaster is the classic wedding gift – and we can see why! If a couple is setting up their home together then of course they need the breakfast essentials. If you ask us, a life without gloriously hot buttered toast is no life at all.

However, if you’re buying for a couple who aren’t in need of the basics but are total foodie fanatics, then you might need to think a little more creatively. Here are some unique gift ideas for the food-obsessed newlyweds in your life – we accept no responsibility for rumbling tummies!

When you think about getting outdoors in Sidmouth, we think it’s fair to say that most people would first think of walking along the coast or getting onto the water. Our seaside location is definitely something to shout about, so it’s no wonder that it’s what we’re most strongly associated with.

However, we’re here to tell you that there’s more on offer than just our fabulous beaches! Sidmouth and the surrounding area is also home to a number of tranquil nature reserves. Here are a couple that we think you should make time for on your next visit.
