Went out tonight to try and get some lightning as it passed over Albuquerque. There is a church that we have shot a couple of weddings at and that honestly, I see almost every day on my way home and like it's placement and architecture, so I decided to try and make it my foreground in the photo.
Once I arrived and found a spot, the radar had indicated that the lightning was now, mostly behind me. Moving to the other side of the church would not present as good of a view so I decided to wait it out, hoping the bolts would come my way eventually. One really, incredibly large one did a while later, but I found this photo much more pleasant on the eye, and unique.
While there are many amazingly well done lightning photos out there, this one is a bit different. This is actually capturing the massive amount of light given off of a very large bolt that is striking right above and behind me, causing the sky, street and church to light up.
It is by far, my favorite lightning-non-lightning photograph I've ever taken. I'll share the lightning bolt one later, but it was so massive it actually filled up more than half the sky above the church and froze the rain drops in mid air, which I have never seen before.
Share this pic if you enjoy the natural beauty of our home, when even something as terrifying as lightning can bring out such beauty.
