Leaving the photo shoot tonight and looking back down the dusty dirt road, it really hit me hard how amazing a good childhood can be. We often times look back on the struggles we had as children and want to make excuses of why we can't do something today. I like to look back on what might have been difficult as a child and let it make me stronger today.

I was born and raised in the South Valley and am so proud of that fact. In a mobile home on my grandpa's land we made our place our own. He was a alfalfa farmer among other things, and in the summer I got to help bail, load, unload and stack hay with my mom and step-dad that we would feed our horses with for the winter. I used to absolutely hate doing it and probably complained more than I should have. Now when we are down there among the fields I long to get back to them.

Truth be told if I never get back, it's okay. The family Lindsay and I have built together will now be our kids memories one day too. Life is relative, our worlds are so small, but memories are huge and last forever. That is why we not only love being photographers, but absolutely believe in the power of a photograph.

Just like we told our beautiful clients tonight when they were discussing when they were shopping around for other photographers and the costs associated with getting their engagement pics done, you don't have photographs taken for now, you have them taken forever.

Went out tonight to try and get some lightning as it passed over Albuquerque.  There is a church that we have shot a couple of weddings at and that honestly, I see almost every day on my way home and like it's placement and architecture, so I decided to try and make it my foreground in the photo.

Once I arrived and found a spot, the radar had indicated that the lightning was now, mostly behind me.  Moving to the other side of the church would not present as good of a view so I decided to wait it out, hoping the bolts would come my way eventually.  One really, incredibly large one did a while later, but I found this photo much more pleasant on the eye, and unique.

While there are many amazingly well done lightning photos out there, this one is a bit different.  This is actually capturing the massive amount of light given off of a very large bolt that is striking right above and behind me, causing the sky, street and church to light up.

It is by far, my favorite lightning-non-lightning photograph I've ever taken.  I'll share the lightning bolt one later, but it was so massive it actually filled up more than half the sky above the church and froze the rain drops in mid air, which I have never seen before.

Share this pic if you enjoy the natural beauty of our home, when even something as terrifying as lightning can bring out such beauty.

Going to bed now, after using some new techniques to touch up already good photos. I really loved this comparison to show the original on the left, which is a good shot, but how it becomes a great shot on the right. #psw13

From Photoshop World

"People ask me how many shots you should take of your HDR photo?  There is a mathematical formula that is LARGELY dependent on how far you live from the place.  If it is right around the corner, take 3.  If it is on the far side of the world, take thousands."

So funny and so true.

This is the most amazingly fresh and fantastic food in Albuquerque. It reminded us of our trip to San Francisco two years ago. Great location as you can see the farm from your table. We have 6 kids and are used to large corporate family restaurants like Chili's, etc. This place is a true gem in Albuquerque. Will highly recommend and come back often.
