Time to say goodbye to Google #MapMaker .
"Google Map Maker will be retired in March 2017."
Personally I think this a severe downgrade, disabling a fantastic mapmaker community instead of empowering them.

This has been a long time coming, you could tell the Google team wanted to abandon MapMaker years ago, they haven't supported the community, closed it down for years, disabled some of the most important features and never fixed any bugs.

I hope that +Google Local Guides will gain the abilities and trust that MapMaker once did, but I think Google is too scared to enable that trust. It seems the program has been heading to only to fixing and indexing businesses rather than communities. Roads, paths, water and forest editing doesn't benefit Google marketing, but fixing businesses and making their directory very accurate does. Why do you think you get 'benefits' from Local Guides and not MapMaker, because MapMaker was a thing of love and trust, local guides not so much.

Overall, I hope I am wrong and Local Guides fix all of the problems of mapmaker while giving a reward to those who help more, but I am doubtful.

Let me know what you think!

We need your help please! Where do think Wales Best Place is?

“Wales Best Place” is a new competition designed to celebrate the most attractive and inspiring places in Wales.

We think that the 870 mile Wales Coast Path is the perfect contender with such a stunning and varied coastline, many wildlife opportunities and not to mention the odd coastal cliff or two.

Please vote for “Wales Coast Path” and share and spread the word about discovering the shape of a nation!
