I'd be interested in hearing of anyone who manages to effectively move from one package to another - regardless of platform.

I started with Reunion and have only ever used that one package. Every time I've looked at changing to a different application I have found that many of the features are the same or similar, but without a true data standard I would need to manually re-enter too much data to make it worthwhile.

- media is handled differently
- URLs are handled differently
- GEDCOM is implemented with slight variations
- etc

GEDCOM X is trying to address these issues and may one day succeed, but until the standard is mature and implemented by each application any data set that is large is likely to be stuck with its originating application.

I was going to reply, but Russ' answer is better than mine would have been. I consider his to be the 'expert' on transfers... so I'll just enjoy the conversations. FHISO is working on common ground, but anything tangible is 'down the road' a ways, I believe. ;-)

Its at a place called South Arm, in Tasmania.

Looking to identify this fruit and the tree it comes from. It is about 3cm in diameter and sort of hemispherical from the stem. It was picked in Tasmania, Australia today.

It sure does, this one is about the maximum size it gets though. And its just ripening now at the start of autumn (a very warm autumn for Tasmania)

Got up early at Cradle Mountain Lodge and went for a walk. I've cropped this one but haven't changed anything else in the image.

So here's an interesting problem not showing up in a google search

G+ is not working for me on MacOS when using Chrome or Firefox, but it is when using Safari. VM into Win7 and it works fine in IE10

For Chrome and Firefox the page part loads and then hangs. Anyone else seen this problem?

My office in Launceston Tasmania. I have the joy of working for myself on computer based work that can be done anywhere - so I simply take the laptop to areas that are beautiful to look at while I work

I'm born and bred Aussie - lived my entire life here.  This is the first time I've managed to get a photo of a platypus. Surprisingly there were two in this billabong, and even more surprising was being able to fill by 4gb card with platypus images.

This week's Family of the Week is Walter Francis Tealby and Sarah Anna Magill.

Only a little bit of family tension when Walter remarried after Sarah died - he married the family house keeper 15 months after Sarah died.
