A case of déjà vu? Tuesday a fine sunny day with fog patches clearing, winds increasing towards the evening with rain pressing into the west by Wednesday but spreading further east throughout Wednesday. The blocking high pressure is weaker and this could mean a low pressure system coming in to the north west by Friday.

It may look bad, a big low pressure system, lots of rain, but there's a blocking high pressure to the east that means all this rain and wind is heading north to Iceland and won't affect most of the British Isles till early Sunday and even then it is restricted to the north west.

Winds will be fresh to strong in the North and West gradually increasing during the day.

Rain in Britain will move East today while central and western areas will have the best of the sunshine. As you can see there are a couple of low pressure systems lining up in the Atlantic. The first week weather front off sw Ireland will bring rain to the west overnight and into Friday while the main event is waiting in the wings and will bring strong winds and rain into Saturday but this will be limited to the west with an East/west split.

A beautiful day in store with temperatures in the high teens. Tomorrow could see showers in places, but more interesting is what's cooking out in the Atlantic. A weak low pressure system will track up the west coast on Wednesday and end up in Iceland where it could slingshot a deepening low pressure system right into the British Isles by Saturday. This is one with keeping an eye on as the energy from warmer water looks to intensify this storm and bring strong winds and a lot of rain.

Below is a forecast for Saturday. Let's see how this develops.

A deeper dive into the potential weather patterns for Autumn and Winter.

Bit of a damp squib Aileen, but plenty of moist air coming down from the Artic giving that cool, wet autumnal feel to the next few days.

There is an end in sight on Sunday when high pressure should come back into play into the forthcoming week.
