I'm interested in how people interact with newer technologies, including screens of all sizes. Interactive multimedia and information visualization are just a few of my passions. My blogs are my filing cabinets, open to the world.
My interests related to technology are reflected in the topics of my blog posts--- off-the-desktop natural-user interfaces and UX/interaction systems that support collaboration, communication, "big data"/information visualization, knowledge-sharing, education, creativity, activities of daily living (i.e. shopping), and leisure. I'm also interested in how new technologies can support the intervention and prevention of learning, social, behavioral, and mental health, and health problems.
I returned to school at mid-life to take computer courses, initially to learn how to make engaging educational games for use on hand-held devices as well as interactive whiteboards. I focused some of my graduate projects on interactive applications for large displays, across a range of settings.
I am presently available to work outside of the public school setting on limited projects, such as co-authoring/editing white papers and research articles, providing input on natural user interface/system design and usability/accessibility testing in authentic environments, and providing/organizing workshops, presentations, and panels.
In the future, I plan to pursue employment in a position where I can combine my experience, creativity, and technical skills to contribute to projects that hold potential for education(STEM), health/mental health, knowledge exploration, collaboration, communication, digital heritage, and the humanities/arts. I also hope to resume graduate studies in a HCI-related area.
I am currently employed as a school psychologist, with additional specialization in traumatic brain injury, severe autism, multiple disabilities, transition to adulthood, and social skills/coping skills groups. I also have a graduate certificate in guidance counseling.
In my present position, I am fortunate to work in technology-rich educational settings. My main assignments include a program for students, mostly teens and young adults, who have disabilities such as severe autism and cognitive delays, and a high school for technology and the arts.
