Throwback Thursday – May 21

The Ute softball team finished as the runner-up in the NCAA Knoxville Regional last weekend, making the tournament field for the 14th time. Utah has advanced to the NCAA College World Series four times in its history. In this photo is from 1994, the Utes celebrated with a dip in the hotel pool after defeating No. 2 Southwestern Louisiana in the regional title game and snapping the Ragin’ Cajuns’ 52-game home field win streak. Pictured top left is current head coach Amy (Timmel) Hogue, who was a second-team All-American in 1994 after finishing ninth in the nation in batting (.455) and 24th in stolen bases per game (0.53). #goutes #tbt

Throwback Thursday – May 28

With the collegiate tennis season behind us and the Grand Slam events getting into full swing, we salute Greg Holmes, who became the first Ute to capture the NCAA singles title in 1983. As a sophomore, Holmes went 48-4 and won 24 straight matches on the way to winning the NCAA Championship. Holmes was named an All-American and the 1983 ITCA National Player of the Year. Turning professional after two years at the U., Holmes played in the U.S. Open six times, reaching the round of 16 on three occasions. He also played in Wimbledon six times and the Australian and French Open tournaments twice. #goutes #tbt
