Cool dashboard!
The exciting thing to me about the Kindle Fire is that it's a cheap, energy efficient machine that has a web browser on it. I bought one so that I could set something up like this picture.

It's using (which is great -- fantastic API) to track some key stats around my book (coming January. Preeorder here: -- and some custom widgets I wrote to track the book's Salesrank on Amazon, and how many clicks the link to it is getting at any given time.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like Silk -- Amazon's custom browser -- is particularly compatible with Ducksboard. So if you want a setup like this, you'll need to Sideload Firefox on it along with its fullscreen extension -- but that's a 5 minute job. After that, it's just fussing with a few settings to make sure the screen doesn't lock or shut off, and presto! instant dashboard, right on the desk.

Surprise! The health benefits of broccoli require the whole food, not a single nutrient

What's so great about Siri?

Apple announced speech recognition for the next iPhone. Big deal. Android’s had it for more than a year. Apple is just playing “catch-up” and the feature’s not really earth-shattering anyway. Right?

Wrong. Everything in that opening paragraph is wrong, except the sentence that reads “big deal.” Siri is a very big deal, the biggest of deals.

In fact, Siri is the most important thing to happen to mobile in this decade so far.

Siri naysayers fall into two camps: 1) those who say it’s no big deal; and 2) those who say Android has had it since August. Both classes of naysayers are wrong.

Everyone should check out the new (FREE) Andy Zipf album called "Jealous Hands". Great DC area musician. Awesome songs and voice. And he's giving it away.

Trying to get Sean Patrick Henry and Whitney Garrison on the Google+ bandwagon

Hey Google+ folks!

As I bet you've noticed, we are facing pretty incredible demand for Google+ invites.

As Engineering Director of Google+, I wanted to take a moment to explain why we're growing the system slowly. First, we want to make sure our infrastructure scales so the service remains fast and reliable. Second, we want to ensure that bugs are fixed while there are still a relatively few people in the field trial.

Things are going well with the systems right now so we feel comfortable enough to open up invites for a brief period. Our goal is to double the user base in the field trial. (Sorry, we're not giving details about how many folks are in the field trial yet).

So, in a few minutes, we'll open up invites again.

We continue to throttle invites, so please don't mass invite folks as it won't work. If you invite a handful of your most important friends and family you're much more likely to get these folks into our system.

Thanks again for providing so much wonderful feedback!

Trying out this new Google+ thingy.
