Who has more respect for rule of law? A popular uprising in Ukraine overthrows a corrupt but democratically elected leader after much bloodshed. OK.

Crimea doesn’t like the new Ukraine leadership and holds a popular referendum where about 90% of the voters want to be allied with Russia instead of Ukraine. No bloodshed. OK.

The West fully supports the bloodshed and new, self-declared leaders, showers (your) money on them and invites them to meetings with top Western leaders.

The West declares the peaceful referendum “illegal,” David Cameron declares it was done “over the barrel of a Kalashnikov” and the West freezes the assets and blocks their international travel of individual Russian citizens who played no role in either event.

Question: If Cuba peacefully voted to join the USA would it be OK for Russia to seize the assets and disrupt the travel of Bill Gates, Warrren Buffett and Carl Icahn because it didn’t like the vote?

My conclusion: Our criminal prick politicians are even worse than Russia’s criminal prick politicians.

Gee, the NSA spied on a French oil company. Who could benefit from that? (See: definition of Fascism)

"Thank you for your service to humanity." I'd really like to live in a culture where people are encouraged to say those words to scientists, engineers and inventors. Instead of to soldiers who intimidate others on behalf of a State.

I'm always a bit shocked when I return to the US and see all the full-on propaganda about military service and how it serves all of our "Freedoms." As if going to a far off land and supporting a plundering political faction and shooting those who want to drive out a foreign army is somehow a great boon to us all back home. How do you get millions of people to believe that so deeply? It's ridiculous on its face.

200+ other countries don't need to do it - many of them have more personal freedoms than the US. And exactly how many dead Vietnamese do we need in order to have some more "freedom" back home? Or how many dead Iraqis?

It would be so much more helpful to the progress of humankind if scientists, engineers, inventors, nurses, teachers and farmers commonly heard the words, "Thank you for your service." Those are people who plainly and obviously help strangers every day. They improve our lives in measurable ways. To the extent they help us own our own lives they really do support our Freedom. And they don't help kill anybody for political reasons.

In another century or so we will get there. Maybe.

In the meantime I want to thank all the people who work to move human progress forward - without any coercion. You know who you are. Thank you for your service to humanity.

Want to REALLY do something related to Freedom on the 4th of July?

Read one of the 79 quotations from The Freedom App. It debuted on Amazon and quickly went to #1 in 'Free Enterprise' and #2 in 'Economics'. Woo hoo!
