Thanks for the heads up. I think I'm happier commenting on Blogger than I would be on FB. I'm also posting on the place my friend Roy set up last year, http://returntothecenter.typepad.com/stone_river/ . He's the one who got me started last year, and it was such fun I goaded him into giving it another go. Thanks a bunch.

Mac nerds, what's a good desktop app for twitter/FB, etc? Seesmic desktop 2 is awful. It's built on Silverlight and is hideously unresponsive, can't scroll worth a damn, and in addition, it hides things from view.

Well, that's weird. If you use SGPlus to cross post from Google+ to twitter, you get borked links, redirect to a drug company. WTF? OK for FB tho.

I thought I remembered correctly that yesterday was Elvis' birthday. He'd have been 77. Strangely, it was in '77 that he passed on.

Some nice tracks here if you like guitar stuff: http://soundcloud.com/justinpiper Just start the first one and the rest play in sequence. And, it's free!

Well that's pretty lame. #diaspora won't let me make up my own hash tags to describe myself and won't let me use a .gif for a profile pic. WTF?

It's an interesting project. I posted the offer for Diaspora invites on Facebook and got no takers. That's probably more a symptom of FB's user base though.

I got a new grandson, as of last Friday, named Anderson. He was a little jaundiced, so they had to put him under blue lights to decompose his bilirubin. I've been visiting him in the hospital and been explaining to him all about photolysis, the wavelengths and energies of blue light, how that relates to the energy it takes to break chemical bonds, and so forth. It's never too soon to begin one's nerducation.

Thanks, siggiofdowneast maine, for your comment to my post on the River of Stones. Mostly I've been posting as a commenter on my friend Roy's blog: http://returntothecenter.typepad.com/stone_river/ . I do have my own blog, on a personal domain, but it's mostly dead, except occasionally during Lent, when I try writing prayers.

My PC decided to get in on the black out to defeat #SOPA and #PIPA, by blowing a BIOS chip, and thereby, refusing to boot. My MacBook joined in by blowing out its battery. Bless their hearts...or something.

Aren't they supposed to wait until after passing the law before dropping the hammer on us little guys? Seems a bit harsh.

Is it more secure to text a password to someone or to email it to their gmail account?

I ended up just texting the single word. I figured people who sniffed the message wouldn't likely know the context. Perhaps a password, but for what? My daughter did know the context, so is back in business now that she's off the Connector

So did any other @TextJoyeurs get Diaspora accounts? Might as well add y'all.

Nick and Alan now added on diaspora. I couldn't find any relevant Cheshires.

Crap, some Russinan dill weed is stealing my bandwidth. If they just d.l.ed my son's music, I wouldn't mind, but I do mind being expected to host some a-hole's pirate enterprise. Time to edit .htaccess...yet again

With luck, I've fixed the Russian/Chinese/Saudi/Israeli pirates. AWSTATS will tell.

We went there _once_. The food wasn't terrible, but the service was pretty awful and the environment unbearable.

This is our go-to place when we feel a need to escape from my cooking. The food is good, the environment is friendly and low key. At Capri, I can eat real pasta dishes, and generally find them to be nice. My gluten-free spouse generally gets a salad of some kind or steak tips, and seems quite happy. The prices are ok. It's fun to see families with small kids and geezers all in one place. I think it's a good sign that I can go back time and again, a number of years actually, and generally see many of the same wait staff. Some of them have been there so long that I've learned their names. There's something to be said for stability.

They have good pizza, but what's nicest is that they also have gluten-free pizza that is rather decent. As a result, my spouse and I can both get pizza. The place down the street, perpendicularly from them, claims to have gluten-free pizza, but it's a pretty poor effort on their part (it doesn't help that the service in said place sucks too). So, if you want pizza in Reading, and especially if you need gluten-free pizza, Louisa's is the place to go.
