City Bikes rocks my world! Nice people (including female mechanics) that will fix your bike or help you buy a new one. This shop is the happy middle ground between fixie bike snobs and Spandex yuppies. I ride my bike often but am not a hard core cyclists (I get passed going up Williams). This shop makes me feel comfortable asking questions and getting help without worrying about using all the correct bike terms. And there are more ladies working here than most bike shops in town. AND it is not pricey. What more could you want? A puppy? Because lately there has been a puppy there.

I came about this shop from price checking a few local bike shops for a tune up. Hands down, the pricing at City Bikes convinced me to bring my bike in for a full tune up. I was greeted by Benjamen's sarcastic face and I felt unwelcome. Walking into that store was like stumbling into a biker tavern dressed as a Jehova's Witness. Maybe I'm not cool enough to bring my bike in here? Anyways. After a few short moments of talking to this kid, I walked out of the store. I couldn't handle the attitude, and I ended up spending more on the labor at River City Bicycles. I might have paid 40% more on my maintenance, but it was worth it to keep my dignity.

OMG. This shop is dangerous to my pocket book: Not because it's expensive, but because it is a seemingly bottomless pit of all the parts I need to restore ALL the bikes I've accumulated over the years. I've found the staff SO helpful (when zI'm doing a repair in front of the shop with borrowed tools) I almost feel guilty about it. The QUINTESSENTIAL PORTLAND BIKE SHOP. No kidding. Worth going a little out of my way for.

I took my 78 Colnago into the shop yesterday to have some new brake levers put onto the bike. Immediately upon walking into the store, I was confronted with a glazed over look and a sarcastic sigh as I approached the counter for help. The guy behind the counter was named Benjamin. Ignoring his obvious condescending stare, I stated that I wanted to have new brake levers put onto the bike. My request was greeted with a quick, and firm "No." After what seemed like an eternity of him staring blankly at me, he reluctantly walks around the counter and starts looking at my bike. Why do I feel like I need to APOLOGIZE for walking into a bicycle repair shop to PAY for help?! After a half energetic approach to helping me, he starts writing me the work order. I ask him if I need to replace the brake cables long with the setup. He visibly rolls his eyes at me. At this point, I've had it with his awful condescending attitude and I ask him "Is there something wrong?". And against all forms of legitimate customer service, he tells me I AM THE PROBLEM. As a retailer working in customer service, I can tell you I have NEVER been treated like this in my entire life. At a maximum I took about 7 minutes of Benjamin's time, and did absolutely nothing but listen to what he had to say. He then promptly walked away and passed me off to someone else in the shop. This shop was one of my favorite shops for bike repair in all of Portland. But my experience with Benjamin will make me think twice about giving my business to this shop if I see him again.

Simply outstanding service and great experience every time I've been to Citybikes on 19th & Ankeny. Probably my favorite bike-shop.

Way too much attitude for me. I've been to this location twice and both visits I felt the "cold shoulder." Maybe I look too square? Who knows. I won't be back to this location. Their other location is excellent, though.
