I run a Facebook Group for School Aged Mums especially 5-12 year olds who are interested in thinking differently, reflecting, being a better parent and not afraid to ask questions.

We are nimble unassuming parents actively parenting now for next. Helping mums create rhythms, routines, rituals and systems so their families thrive and enjoy each other.

As we move on into the school years we need many more whole family systems. Systems where we all have to work together to make it work. Things like the family meeting, contributions, family meals/ lunch, family game night/day/afternoon and reading aloud together.

Things we can do to encourage family unity and teaching our children how to be a responsible part of a whole family system

Being able to do your own laundry is an anticipated family rite of passage. Children love the responsibility of it and if you take your time with it, you’ll find it is a good transition for your family.

It’s a system that slowly over time everyone can learn. This is how you prepare.

Are you like most of us parents and fall into the trap of asking about test grades, quiz grades and scores almost immediately and get sucked into the vortex of talking about grades?

“How was your social studies quiz?”
“Did you get your grade for that math work?”
“Ohh, 85% buddy!”
“Where’s your paper?”
“What was the class average?”

Do you get stuck there and wonder how in the world did it come to be all about letters and numbers? You are not alone.

So if you’re stuck in the grades vortex and want to talk about all the other things that happen in school too then read on.
