Apparently Google's goal for Google+ is to make it so annoying difficult to use that everyone simply stops using it. If that's they goal they have succeeded in a marvelous way. Just posting a text or message is now so stupidly convoluted that I'm done. I thought that Facebook was bad but this has set the bar to an entire new level.

Coding a Mandlebrot generator on vintage IBM mainframe hardware

I've been following this story since the author first posted about the idea. I find it fascinating to see someone explore this old hardware. When I was at IBM in the 90's we still had customers with classic hardware in daily usage and it was amazing to see in operation. Much of this hardware was leased so when the customers did decommission it, we disassembled it and brought it back to the branch field office for proper handling, be that scrapping, destruction, recycling, etc. so I often got a real good look at the inner workings.
The way these things were built was just astonishing – those SMS cards for example were built to standards NASA would appreciate – and the author explores some of that in this article.

The “victimhood” of Christians is so minor that it can center around the design of a Starbucks cup. No insult can be too trivial for the chronically-aggrieved Christian Right to throw a fit over. Christians were once fed to lions, now they face the harrowing experience of having to drink out of a cup with no snowflake on it.
