We were just admiring youth librarian Peter's Summer Reading T-shirt collection. It goes back to 1998! Do you remember all of these? Do you or your kids have a favorite? #summerreading

Bastian says, "I arrived in Portland from Chile in order to study at PCC. My English skills were poor, so I started coming to Central Library three times a week to read. Staff here could always help me find something good to read and they also helped me check out study guides for the TOEFL exam. I recently passed my exam and am now looking for transfer opportunities to University. If you want to learn and have the motivation, the library can help you learn English, too. Thank you, MCL!" To which we say, "congratulations, Bastian! Your perseverance paid off."

You're never too little for a library card! Baby Ezekiel got his first library card yesterday. Momma and Big Sister sure are proud of him.

No more fines for kids and teens! Beginning June 15, the library won’t fine patrons ages 0-17 for late items. We also won’t charge patrons of any age for late youth materials. Existing fines will be waived. Hooray!

What's the first thing one should do as a foreign exchange student after landing in Portland? The correct answer: Head straight to the library to get a library card! Eric from Taiwan did just that at Albina Library and received a warm welcome in his native tongue (Mandarin) from librarian Judy, who also hooked him up with the library program Talk Time, an informal conversation circle for non-native speakers to practice speaking English, as well as some bus maps to get around the neighborhood.
