What makes Los Angeles bloom? Director Dija Dowling documents the stories of everyday people who make L.A. a beautiful place to live.

Los Angeles is a diverse city filled with hope. It's also a city filled marked by rows of flowers, intriguing vintage signs, front yard shrines, and street art just about anywhere you go.  #losangeles   #dijadowling   #diverse

#Scars can be a constant reminder of some of the most painful and embarrassing experiences that many people would be reluctant to share. But for artist #TedMeyer, the scars on a person's body can also provide an honest medium for storytelling and #art.

Almonds are one of the thirstiest crops in California. It takes approximately one gallon of water to produce just one almond. More than 80 percent of all California almonds are exported overseas, mainly to Asia. Some argue that we're sending California's most precious commodity in the midst of a three-year historic drought. #Almonds   #almondfarm   #water

Prop 47 would reduce to misdemeanors some nonviolent crimes that can sometimes be charged as felonies, such as drug possession for personal use, or shoplifting or receiving stolen property in amounts over $950. Prisoners serving time for those crimes could apply for reduced sentences. #proposition47   #prop47   #californiaelectiondaynovember2014

#Proposition45 would require health insurance companies to justify proposed health insurance rate increases, and give the California Insurance Commissioner the authority to veto them. It applies only to so-called individual and employer small group plans, those covering 50 or fewer people; larger groups would be exempt. #Prop45 would also require insurers to give public notice about increases and make them subject to judicial review. #californiaelectiondaynovember2014
If you thought Obamacare settled thing when it comes to health insurance, think again. Prop 45 has the potential to change the state-run healthcare marketplace, Covered California.

When Angelenos flush their toilets, where does all that #waste go?

#Sewagesludge accumulated by more than four million residents in Los Angeles is extracted and treated at the Hyperion Treatment Plant. Approximately 75 percent of those #biosolids -- that's 500 tons a day! -- are loaded on trucks headed to Kern County. But not everyone is on board.

What's the last photo on your phone? A selfie, a cup of coffee, or a photograph of the Venice Beach Boardwalk? The Last Photo project is a simple photo sharing concept created by Ivan Cash, an interactive artist who went around different pockets of the world, asking complete strangers about the last photo stored on their phones. #lastphoto   #ivancash   #losangeles

A #Jeepney is a form of public transportation that has evolved into a cultural icon for many Filipinos. After World War II, there was a surplus of U.S. military Jeeps sold to #Filipinos . Many Jeepneys were then refurbished, painted over, and decorated with a slice of Filipino history. There's one jeepney here in Los Angeles! #jeepneytour

Prop 48 would ratify or overturn a law that permits off-reservation gambling in Madera County for two Indian tribes. The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians would be permitted to build a 2,000-slot machine casino 38 miles from its reservation. The Wiyot Tribe would collect around $6 million annually from the casino in exchange for not building a casino on its lands near the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, which the state cautioned could be environmentally unsound. #prop48   #proposition48  #californiaelectiondaynovember2014
Prop 48 gives voters a chance to strike down or enact a bill lawmakers passed last year approving an off-reservation tribal casino in the Central Valley.

#Proposition46 would create the nation’s first random drug and alcohol testing of doctors. It would also require physicians to consult a national database before prescribing habit-forming prescription drugs like OxyContin, Vicodin, and Adderall to cut down on abuse by “doctor shoppers.” The measure would also quadruple the cap on pain and suffering awards in medical negligence lawsuits from $250,000 to $1 million. The cap was imposed by a 1975 initiative; this measure would bring in line with inflation. #prop46   #californiaelectiondaynovember2014
Medical errors, sometimes due to doctors abusing drugs or alcohol, and the recourse patients have are addressed in Prop 46.

Prop 2 calls to pay down California's $300 billion of debt and save for future budget emergencies. Would require the state to pay off around $800 million in debt each year for 15 years and deposit the same amount into a rainy day fund. After 15 years, the Legislature could opt to continue paying off debt, or just save for emergencies. #prop2   #proposition2   #californiaelectiondaynovember2014
California is $300 billion in debt, a total it owes largely to pension and retiree health benefits, as well as local governments. In the broadest terms, Proposition 2 calls to pay down this debt and to save money for emergencies.
