Falling Fruit is now an official participant of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (+USEPAgov) Food Recovery Challenge! Our future crowd-funded mobile app (donate here: http://ow.ly/wxXmx) will empower foragers and freegans everywhere to publish their harvests, data which for dumpsters we'll leverage (anonymously) at the highest levels of government to expose the shocking prevalence of food waste.

Falling Fruit is on the ballot for the 2014 +SXSW Eco festival. Please vote up our proposed session to let their judges know you want us in Austin, Texas this fall sparking dialogue about edible cities on the big stage!

Behold! Falling Fruit's global dumpster-diving map.

Built from information scattered across the internet, it is surely the world’s most exhaustive map of food-bearing dumpsters. With it we hope to raise awareness about food waste, facilitate the liberation of discarded food, and encourage businesses to donate the food instead.

Check out the map and let us know what you think!

Falling Fruit turns 1 years old! Thanks for joining us on our journey mapping the world's public fruit.

Since launching fallingfruit.org from a Boulder coffee shop one year ago today, we've received an average 1000 visits per day, reached all seven continents, expanded to include every imaginable "urban edible", incorporated as a non-profit in Colorado, and brought on Jeff Wanner (pictured) as the third member of our "board of directors". We look forward to another great year!

Behold, the lovely Loquat (http://fallingfruit.org/?f=18), a resident of SE China, Pakistan, and (more recently) the coastal US. Their season is just starting, so if you have some in your neighborhood go grab a snack! Ripe when they're soft to the squeeze, and show no green. Good for jam, jellies, and country wines. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loquat
