Technology and engineering fields are facing the challenge of acquiring and retaining women. This fall we aim to rectify that with a groundbreaking conference: Coder[xx] (prounounced "coders"), the first hyper-focused technical conference for women

Couldn't attend Grace Hopper this year? Join us for a day of technical talks, workshops, networking and more - featuring an opening keynote by Mary Lou Jepsen (Head of Engineering and Display Devices at Facebook/Oculus) and a tremendous lineup of women and men engineers and developers.  You will have the opportunity to learn new tools and languages, and set your self on a path to both technical and career growth.

"Unleash the Engineer Within You" and find out more here: http://coderxx.org

(CodeChix is completely volunteer run.  In order to keep this an affordable conference for all,  we would truly appreciate your donations at http://bit.ly/1JbPN6i)

We want to thank everyone for coming out to our Kubernetes workshop on Sunday! We had a great turnout, and students from as far away as Monterey came out to learn about Google’s open source container management system.

Thanks again, and May the Code Be with You!

Soham Mehta, the founder of InterviewKickstart, was an early engineer and, most recently, a Director of Engineering at Box. Previously, he worked at eBay and Microsoft.

This talk will focus on do's and don'ts when searching for full-time programming jobs, especially at good companies in the valley.

Among other things, we'll talk about:

- why switch to (or make) a career in programming,
- what to do when switching tracks,
- why coding interviews are done the way they are,
- how they are graded,
- why the success rate is low, and
- how to rigorously prepare.

We'll also look at some actual coding problems, to bring some of the concepts home.

To join us for this event, please register through the link below!

DevPulseCon is a hyper-focused technical conference for women engineers, developers, users, administrators, scientists, open source enthusiasts, and geeks. (DevPulseCon was founded in 2015 as Coder[xx].) Technology and engineering fields struggle to acquire and retain women.  DevPulseCon lets women in the industry connect on a technical level and help each other, building connections that can last a lifetime.

Join CodeChix for a day of technical talks, workshops, networking and more - featuring a tremendous lineup of women and men engineers and developers. This year's workshop choices are Learning Node.js/Javascript and Intro to Docker.

Come spend an afternoon with a hands-on workshop discovering Kubernetes, an OSS container management platform by Google. This session will explore many tools, automation systems, and some higher level API layers.

Students will be able to grasp the key concepts of Kubernetes through presentations interspersed with direct hands-on time with knowledgeable instructors and TA's. By the end of the workshop the participants will walk away knowing key concepts and implementation of Kubernetes and will also be able to deploy their own apps.

This workshop is open to all, and lunch will be provided

For workshop registration please follow the link below. We look forward to seeing you there!

Introduction
Who We Are

*CodeChix is a fiscally-sponsored non-profit dedicated to the Education, Promotion and Mentorship of women engineers and students. It is run by local women developers for local women developers.

Events include Technical Talks and Hands-on Workshops that are open to the public as well as restricted events tailored for CodeChix members to improve their skills and learn new skills. We started as a grassroots group in 2009 in San Jose, CA.
(*CodeChix Education Fund is a fiscally-sponsored project of Community Initiatives).

We are a local, group for women meeting face-to-face and gadget-to-gadget in a non-alpha, language/os agnostic, supportive environment and creating great things. Our events are either open to all or women-only (see details for each meeting).

This Google+ Page is dedicated to CodeChix in the SF Bay Area.  We also have a Seatle/Redmond chapter which can be found below: https://plus.google.com/u/0/117533142807337861126/posts

Whether you’ve been working with tech for several years, or have never written a single line of code, we welcome you! Our members are at all skill levels.

We are about education through real-life lessons and experiences, mentoring/sponsoring of technical/geeky women, networking and building lasting connections, friendships and alliances with other techy women living in the Bay Area and other geographical areas with CodeChix chapters.

How do we define “women”?

To CodeChix, a “woman” is anyone that identifies as a woman – queer, trans etc. Henceforth, we use the term “women”.

Our Main Goals
  • Monthly hacking sessions/informal session – face-to-face and mentoring with experienced techies
  • Programming/problem solving in a non-alpha, supportive environment
  • Education through workshops, seminars, talks/lectures from industry as well as academia
  • Speaker series with prominent proponents of code and all things code-related
  • Networking, networking, networking
  • Working side-by-side on projects with other women and building great relationships on a personal level
Our Events

We have various events throughout the year. Here are the basic types:

  • Hacking Sessions: Usually held at coffee shops, we get together for a couple of hours to code. You’re welcome to bring your own project, help out someone else, or just relax.
  • Workshops/Tech-Talks: Some of our members graciously share their knowledge and volunteer their time to teach us something new, or showcase their latest project. We promote a safe environment, so if you’ve been wanting to host one, please send an email to organizers at codechix dot org.
  • Our ticketed events (usually open to everyone) are listed at open events on EventBrite.
