CodeChix invites you to She's Geeky: the "Unconference" for women in STEM. CodeChix is excited to pass along a special offer celebrating our sister organization She’s Geeky.

In 2009, CodeChix Founder, Rupa Dachere, attended She’s Geeky in Mountain View for the first time, and it was one of her inspirations for starting CodeChix as a grassroots group in the Bay Area. This is the first year, that CodeChix has been able to sponsor She’s Geeky and give back to the awesome women that attend this Unconference.

In 2014, CodeChix plans to have a track dedicated to promoting awesome CodeChix members - we will have talks on software, hardware, security, networking/community and whatever else people feel like talking about (Saturday only). Featured speakers are Kimberly Spillman, Melody Bliss, Kelley Nielsen, Akkana Peck, Rupa Dachere and the list is growing. So, come join us at She's Geeky and let us know if you would like to be added to the list of speakers!

She’s Geeky provides a safe, friendly place for women to “geek out” and talk about their jobs, their STEM passion, their lives and their hobbies in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Network with other inspiring women working in STEM fields this Jan 24-26 in Mountain View, hosted by Microsoft Silicon Valley.

Register today! The first 30 CodeChix to use our discount code: CCHIX50 will receive 50% off registration.

Greetings CodeChix!

We have been a bit quiet lately - mostly because all of us got sucked into our jobs after our fantastic workshop at PyCon in Montreal where we taught 25 students how to build PiDoorbell from scratch !!  Updates should be coming on that shortly.

Coming up - we have a great event where we have been invited to participate in Cisco Live on May 18 in SF, Moscone.

Register: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/devnet-codechix-cisco-live-tickets-11566733411

It's a nominal fee for all three days and I hope many of you can make it !!

Please register in the next few days since there are limited tickets.   On Friday 5/16, we will be sending all the registered attendees a special pass that you will need to show to get into the conference.  So we need to have committed headcount before then.

And, yes, you are welcome to bring your friends etc. (they do have to register also) !

May the code be with you,
CodeChix Bay Area

Introduction
Who We Are

*CodeChix is a fiscally-sponsored non-profit dedicated to the Education, Promotion and Mentorship of women engineers and students. It is run by local women developers for local women developers.

Events include Technical Talks and Hands-on Workshops that are open to the public as well as restricted events tailored for CodeChix members to improve their skills and learn new skills. We started as a grassroots group in 2009 in San Jose, CA.
(*CodeChix Education Fund is a fiscally-sponsored project of Community Initiatives).

We are a local, group for women meeting face-to-face and gadget-to-gadget in a non-alpha, language/os agnostic, supportive environment and creating great things. Our events are either open to all or women-only (see details for each meeting).

This Google+ Page is dedicated to CodeChix in the SF Bay Area.  We also have a Seatle/Redmond chapter which can be found below: https://plus.google.com/u/0/117533142807337861126/posts

Whether you’ve been working with tech for several years, or have never written a single line of code, we welcome you! Our members are at all skill levels.

We are about education through real-life lessons and experiences, mentoring/sponsoring of technical/geeky women, networking and building lasting connections, friendships and alliances with other techy women living in the Bay Area and other geographical areas with CodeChix chapters.

How do we define “women”?

To CodeChix, a “woman” is anyone that identifies as a woman – queer, trans etc. Henceforth, we use the term “women”.

Our Main Goals
  • Monthly hacking sessions/informal session – face-to-face and mentoring with experienced techies
  • Programming/problem solving in a non-alpha, supportive environment
  • Education through workshops, seminars, talks/lectures from industry as well as academia
  • Speaker series with prominent proponents of code and all things code-related
  • Networking, networking, networking
  • Working side-by-side on projects with other women and building great relationships on a personal level
Our Events

We have various events throughout the year. Here are the basic types:

  • Hacking Sessions: Usually held at coffee shops, we get together for a couple of hours to code. You’re welcome to bring your own project, help out someone else, or just relax.
  • Workshops/Tech-Talks: Some of our members graciously share their knowledge and volunteer their time to teach us something new, or showcase their latest project. We promote a safe environment, so if you’ve been wanting to host one, please send an email to organizers at codechix dot org.
  • Our ticketed events (usually open to everyone) are listed at open events on EventBrite.
