And with that, I’m done with the ParserComp games (except for actually voting. I should do that). My favourite games of the comp: Chlorophyll, a traditional Space Base Adventure Game with charming writing and a distinctive (adolescent plant-alien)…

Everyone seems to get that testing is a distinct thing, though, and that's important and heartwarming =) I think one of my points of kinship with the IF folk is their respect for testing, because in my own country, my respect for testing brands me as a stuffy mcstuffypants.

ParserComp: Endless Sands, a vampire desert-survival game

Endless Sands (Hamish McIntyre). Ooh, nice cover art. Story: The protagonist is a vampire; he has been abducted by the local Vampire Queen and dumped in the desert a few hours before dawn, for no very clear reason other than that the Vampire Queen is a…

ParserComp: Terminator, a tactical puzzler about robot search-and-rescue:

Next up in ParserComp: Terminator (Matt Weiner), no direct relation to the very similar-looking Terminator Chaser. Story: A spaceship has crashed, and you have to carry out search and rescue under sub-optimal conditions using remotely-controlled drones.…

ParserComp: Down, the Serpent and the Sun, an epic giant-snake-guts apocalypse

Next ParserComp entry: Down, the Serpent and the Sun (Chandler Groover). Story: An apocalyptic sequence, very loosely inspired by Mesoamerican myth – although I felt there was as much Ragnarok in it as anything. A vast serpent has swallowed the sun, and…

ParserComp: Sunburn, a social-justice vampire room-escape

Continuing with ParserComp: Sunburn (Caelyn Sandel). This game deals centrally with harassment and abduction, and the review obviously will too, so let’s start out behind a cut.

ParserComp: A Long Drink, hardboiled-detective murder mystery:

Continuing with ParserComp games: A Long Drink (Owen Parks). Story: This is going for a noir feel – first-person viewpoint, rumpled detective, certain stripe of beautiful woman. The protagonist, a newly-ex-detective, is invited to a remote mountain…

ShuffleComp Disc 2: a music-inspired IF game jam

Last year around this time I ran ShuffleComp, a game jam / minicomp for interactive fiction inspired by music. Participants contributed eight song suggestions to the pot, got eight random songs back in return, then made games inspired (however loosely) by…

On with ParserComp! Six Grey Rats Crawl Up The Pillow (Boswell Cain). Story: You play Rinaldo di Gorgonzola, a petty fop in a Varicella-ish modern-Renaissance-Italy (plastics, modern firearms, aristocracy, not much in the way of effective medicine),…

I started with a game like that too, and it'll always be my favorite, really (I'm still laboring on the expanded-but-not-actually-longer version ...)
