Business clients can be reluctant to pay for things they don't think they need. So how can an MSP demonstrate their value to their customers?
Unfortunately for MSPs, many businesses think reactively instead of proactively. Because of this, it can be difficult for an MSP to sell proactive services.

Recently, CNN conducted an experiment to see if data from Malaysia Airlines Flight 370's passengers' cell phones could be recovered. Pictures, videos, unsent text messages and undelivered emails could provide clues to what happened to the plane.

Gillware Data Recovery and 4Discovery collaborated to recover the data from a phone that CNN placed in a specialized pressure chamber full of salt water to simulate the conditions on the Indian Ocean's floor.

Summer is a busy time of year for our data recovery engineers, and not just because they get invited to a lot of cookouts.

Gillware sees a spike in data recovery cases in the summer due to electrical surges and power outages caused by thunderstorms.

Learn more about the types of electrical hard drive failures we see and how to prevent them in our latest white paper: https://gillware.com/docs/Seasonal-Trends-In-Data-Recovery-Summer-And-Electrical-Failures.pdf

You wouldn't leave the front door of your business unlocked at night. So why leave your critical business data unprotected? Don't take the risk. Read more about the importance of having a backup in our latest blog post.
Every day businesses take measures to protect themselves from threats to their operations, but when it comes to data backup coverage, many choose to gamble.

Let me begin by stating that Gillware Data Recovery was NOT able to recover my data. I know that not all corrupted data can be brought back, but we were just very disappointed in both their inability as well as the service we received (as you will see why). To start, I had a memory card from a camera that had some corrupted pictures on it. Not all, but around 40% of the files for some reason were corrupted data. When I dropped off the card at their office (I am local) they were optimistic and said they will have their engineer who handles these types of memory cards look at it. Wonderful! At that time they quoted anywhere from $250 to $500. Fine, these were pictures from a vacation of a lifetime. Two days later I received an email stating and showing that 100% of the data was recovered. OMG! How great!! They asked for payment which was $400 plus a fee to put the data on 2 DVDs. By the way, they charged me $7.99 per DVD…Yikes! Here is where everything went bad. Two days after I paid I get a phone call stating that actually NONE of the data was recovered and they need to do more work on the recovery. You heard right, NONE!! So, they billed me $400 and they hadn’t really even done anything. This is where I had to question everything. What was their billing practice? If I paid $400 what is that they did? Did they download something off of my memory card and simply say “OK, $400 please!”. Don’t they know that I already did this at home!! Who is working on the data recovery? I mean how incompetent are the individuals working on my recovery? It seems they are doing the same thing that I did but wanting HUNDREDS of dollars for it. Am I going to get billed for more money since they need to actually do work on my data recovery? They have me in a bind in that I want the data and have already shown that I was willing to pay. Oh Boy!! In the end, as I said above, they were not successful. It is worth noting that they did refund me my money 100%, but again everything seemed to be mishandled and nothing was really explained to me. Not the billing, not the actual reason they told me everything was recovered, nothing. My word of warning is simply that these guys seem like they bill however they feel that day. They didn’t seem to do any work on my recovery and wanted $400. Hmmmm

Awesome recovery service!! I requested a targeted recovery service, but once I saw the recovered files, I noticed I forgot one more file I needed. However, instead of targeted recovery, they were able to recover 97% of all my files, even the files I didn't request. The price was high, but that is because the HDD was severely damaged. So you could say the price was worth it. Well, totally worth it. Thanks Gillware!!

Absolutely amazing! They successfully recovered all the data off of an old drive (format I'm not even aware of) and made it accessible through a Windows operating system. Before charging me anything, they let me check the data first. Once I determined that all the data I needed had been successfully recovered, I let them know. Then, they sent the data to me along with the old drive. The process was very easy, the price was very reasonable, the service was very fast and the service was very friendly. Thank you!

Had a cool (UFC) USB drive that stopped working a couple of years ago for some mysterious reason. I was pretty sure the data wasn't all that important since I'd lived so long without access to it...but a friend had mentioned Gillware...so I decided to give them a shot. I was correct...the retrieved data wasn't all that meaningful...and some of it was badly corrupted (and backed up elsewhere.) However, I came out of the experience being able to reformat and use the USB drive. Not everyone would've spent the money but I'm glad I did. Thank you Gillware!!!

Unfortunately my results were poor. After describing in detail the problems I was having with my external hard drive, the Gillware representative told me that they were certain that they could retrieve 80 to 90% of my data for approximately $600.00, and their success rate was very good. After shipping the drive to Gillware it was reported that the drive had more damage then expected and to proceed the fee would be $1200.00. I gave the go ahead and with the holidays in the time frame, I did not hear back. I reached out to Gillware and asked for the status. They told me that they would at best retrieve 50% and after my review to let them know if I wanted the data. The final results were that about 30% was retrieved and I paid $600.00 the initial quote. I had hoped for much better results.

I didn't love that I needed to use a data recovery service, but Gillware definitely made the whole process easy and affordable. Most importantly, they had great customer service to guide me through making my decision on what company to choose all the way through the data recovery and payment process. Because I have a Dell computer and Dell recommended Gillware to me, I was able to get my data retrieved for much less than at other data recovery companies (and yes, I checked a couple others). They paid for the shipping of my old hard drive to their location and before I had to pay anything, they let me review what files they were able to retrieve. This was great for me as I only wanted to pay if they had the photos I had lost since the rest of my data had been backed up prior to the hard drive crash. Thankfully they were able to recover the photos I lost. When I went to pay, I noticed that the charges were slightly different than what I had been quoted initially. Before I had a chance to call the next day, someone called me to ask if I had any questions, and they fixed the charges to match the original quote. Like I said, great service! I'm very thankful to Gillware for getting my data back.

Gillware was extremely helpful in recovering data from my failed hard drive. This was my first experience needing to retrieve lost data and I was glad it was with them. From beginning to end, their entire process was so efficient and simple, from receiving the hard drive from me, completing the data review and retrieval process, to finally returning the new hard drive back to me. They stayed in contact with me throughout the entire effort and followed up with me once I received and reviewed the backup hard drive to ensure I could access everything I needed. Working with them was a pleasure. I highly recommend them as a resource for date recovery and will use them again myself if I need to.

Super Storm Sandy knocked us down, but Gillware Data Recovery helped pick us up. Our servers were under 8 feet of salt water and sewerage and were totally destroyed. Our outside backup system failed and we had no computer records.. To make matters even worse, our insurance did not cover the damage. Gillware came to the rescue. They were able to rescue our drives, and understood our plight. They offered both their expertise.and compassion. Gillware Data Recovery sent us the rescued disks and reduced their cost by 95%. The recovered disks were 100% accurate and seamlessly integrated back into all of our systems. I would highly recommend the Gillware Data Recovery Team to anyone in need of their services. Forever Thanks. Marc Goodman President EMJ Industrial Supply Inc.
