An NRI writes about why he decided to R2A (Return to America). Mr. Shenoy responds.

So he couldn't handle what he'd become, so blame that on India. Everyone is an asshole, India doesn't make you one. Yes, I do think a lot of people in India value life very little - doesn't mean I have to. I hate the traffic, and I left Bangalore because of it. Gurgaon makes you a moron driver, they say, but I still stop at red lights and give way to ambulances. I don't honk. I give money to beggars, and I refuse when I can't. We share our dishes with our maid, whom we pay substantially more than $40 a month for less than 4 hours of work a day; not because of the goodness of our hearts, but because we can afford to and we like her and all that. I've long lost my road rage (don't tell me they don't have it in the US, bullock carts or not, you get screamed at even if you have an infant puking on a highway; I know.)

I'm not an anomaly, or a hero. There are thousands of people like me who make a choice, willingly, that they will not let arbitrary influences take away from the one thing that matters - don't be evil. If we've lost some of our character, it will return.

You do get to choose how you behave. You don't become a bad person because of your circumstances, that is such an excuse! You can always get out of being a bad person, rather than your circumstances.

In a way, this is our civil war, and it needs a few of us to make our stand. It has always been easier to leave. So people who want to leave, will leave. The rest of us will figure it out.

Einstein on Gandhi seems appropriate - "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth." RIP, Steve

How Apple did to Nokia and RIM what General Motors did to Ford - great read on how GM used marketing to become #1, and how Apple did the same. http://steveblank.com/2011/10/18/how-the-iphone-got-tail-fins-–-part-1-of-2

I wish there was a way for users to have channels on G+ or Twitter that people could subscribe to. Oh, and an universal client that allowed me to post on G+ (the existing Chrome extensions that claim to post to G+, FB & Twitter have all crashed)

On the occasion of REM's retirement, a great article by Dave Eggers on what it means to be a sellout: http://students.ou.edu/M/Eric.C.Mai-1/DE.htm
