I see that Douglas Carswell Tory MP is now Douglas Carswell UKIP MP, and is going to force a bye-election to validate his change.

Interesting times!

According to what I read there are several more that will be following him "across the house." My question is are they doing this because they are genuine Euro sceptics or are the doing it because they see the writing on the wall and the loss of a fat income when they lose the next election?

What is it about building a den that attracts children?  did you build dens as a child?
When we were young we would spend hours building dens. Off we would go on our bikes with a few sandwiches (usually eaten by half past ten) and a bottle of Corona and we would spend the day frantically dragging bits of wood, b...

Bulkhead

This sculpture is called Bulkhead.

It stands about 7' tall by the River Stour in Canterbury.

Some years ago, as part of the Canterbury Festival, the City Council organised a sculpture trail around the city, all sorts of styles and materials, I loved them all.

At the end, residents were asked to vote for their favourite, and the Council bought it - this one. Definitely my favourite, but a controversial choice.

We visited The Turner Contemporary in Margate yesterday, we go three or four times a year.

A major Mondrian exhibition this time. . No pics, obviously.

But well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We recently received a leaflet from the Highways Agency about the changes to the Dartford Crossing, paying in advance or within 24 hours.

Ok, this won't affect anyone outside the SE of England, but there are other toll roads in the UK, and once the principle is established, you can be sure there will be more.

Given how much we pay in Road Fund Licence, I don't think we should pay tolls at all. And it's yet another example of Govts breaking their promises. How many times have we heard that once it's been paid for, it will be toll free? And is it? Is it heck!

There's no such thing as Road Fund Licence.  It's car tax, not road tax.  The money goes straight to the exchequer and has nothing to do with use of the roads.

Tolls, on the other hand, are directly associated with the maintenance & management of the roads they pertain to.

We also went to the Hornby Visitor Centre just outside of Margate - you know, Hornby Dublo, Corgi, Airfix, Scalextric.

And also an excellent D-Day Landing display, models and real vehicles, a mock-up of the beach, commentary, photos.

You can play with some of it, too.

Family ticket £12.00.

Haha. It's stopped here in London, but it was really bad last night & the night before. Lovely weather yesterday, though, but it got darker towards 9pm

We went to Broadstairs on Wednesday (ignore the date/time stamp, I set it wrongly), and took this in the harbour just as the tide started to go out, using the black and white setting.
