Last night I spoke to the Vietnam Veterans of America on veterans court, my candidacy, and veteran suicide prevention awareness. According to a study done in 2013, roughly 22 veterans pass away from suicide per day or one every 65 minutes. As a community we need to take action in helping improve the mental help of our veterans, they fought for our lives, so it is important we fight for theirs! Thank you for having me.

Yesterday was great day for me as I also got to speak at the InfraGard quarterly meeting held at the Emergency Operations Center.

InfraGard is a partnership between the FBI and members of the private sector. The InfraGard program provides a vehicle for seamless public-private collaboration with government that expedites the timely exchange of information and promotes mutual learning opportunities relevant to the protection of Critical Infrastructure. With thousands of vetted members nationally, InfraGard's membership includes business executives, entrepreneurs, military and government officials, computer professionals, academia and state and local law enforcement; each dedicated to contributing industry specific insight and advancing national security.

You can read more about InfraGard on their website: https://www.infragard.org/

Last night was the 3rd anniversary launch party for Bliss Babe magazine, founded by Leslie McCarroll and Debbie Torres McCarthy, at the Plaza Resort Club. I met many amazing folks in our community from business leaders to aspiring entrepreneurs and was able to speak with them about my campaign goals. The event was a huge success followed with a spectacular fashion show, excellent food & drinks, and fun atmosphere! Thanks for a great time!

I had great time speaking and answering questions about my candidacy at the Washoe County Republican Assembly on Tuesday. Some of the things I talked about were preventable in-custody deaths, wrap-around services and how we can reduce recidivism rates in our detention centers, and budgetary issues. During the assembly there was a brief discussion on the authority of the sheriff as it relates to the Federal Government and constitutional issues and I’m thankful for the insight the community provided me about their concerns.

This week on Nevada Business Chronicles, I address my stance on the 2nd Amendment. I believe the 2nd Amendment was created for our protection. While I do stand behind our right to bear arms, it is imperative that all weapons are kept in safe locations and gun safety is practiced at all times. Another important topic discussed is in this episode covers Excited Delirium, the cause of several in custody deaths at the Washoe County detention center.

Excited Delirium has been cited as the cause of death in at least two in-custody deaths over the past two years at the Washoe County Detention Center.
As the next Washoe County Sheriff, I bring knowledge of and experience with this condition that no other candidate possesses. I am a certified instructor in Excited Delirium and have trained Law Enforcement across the country on how to recognize signs and symptoms, what actions to take and how to mitigate liability.

Ongoing, comprehensive training on this topic, may have saved lives! I will bring this training with me when elected! Even one preventable death is too many! Visit my website for more information on Excited Delirium. Thank you!

Veteran's Guest House expansion
The Veterans Guest House is an incredible asset to veterans and their families who are in the Reno/Sparks area for medical treatment. The need for additional housing has increased and the Guest House has answered the call. Our military veterans are protectors of our constitution and deserve the best Reno has to offer. I want to congratulate the Veteran Guest House on the Ground Breaking of their new facility. Our veterans now have another incredible location for them and their families to stay. Washoe County is a loving and caring community and it will be my honor to serve as its next Sheriff!

Opioid and Heroin Epidemic has Gripped the U.S. and Nevada
The Nevada Medical Association Alliance hosted a very informative seminar on the Opioid and Heroin epidemic. Sam Quinones, the award winning non fiction author of Dreamland, gave a gripping account of how the Opioid epidemic began and how America has been affected. Dr. Reka Danko, Asst. Professor at the UNR School of Medicine gave a detailed and dynamic explanation of Opiates affects on the brain and mitigation of their deadly affects. Doctor Alexander Isani, gave insight into the Veterans Hospital system, how the VA has put in place, ground breaking treatment of chronic pain and its efforts to deal with Opioid addiction. Elyse Monroy, Policy Analyst for Governor Sandoval laid out the State of Nevada's efforts to deal with the Opioid epidemic in Nevada.
This gave me the insight needed to understand the Opioid epidemic that plagues the Washoe County and the inmates within the Washoe County Detention Center. Understanding the Opioid epidemic, as Washoe County Sheriff, I will put in place policies and procedures that will mitigate preventable in-custody deaths and give Patrol Deputies additional tools to Protect and Serve the citizen's of Washoe County! Ongoing training is the key! I will lead by example!

Today I attended the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention "Walk in memory Walk for Hope" Communities connecting to prevent suicide. I have been touched by suicide as have countless others in our community. Ihave attended this event several times in the past and each time, my heart aches for the loss that people feel when someone they know and
love takes their own life. I spoke with many in attendance and was touched by the stories they told. I watched as what seemed like a never ending line of people paid tribute to husbands, fiancées, significant others, children, siblings, parents, extended family members, friends and acquaintances. I walked with them as we all stood over the Truckee river and threw carnations into the rushing water in a symbolic gesture to our loved ones and symbolizing, moving on with lives in spite of the tragic loss. I read signs of statistics and information to those who may need help themselves.
In all of this, what impacted me most, was seeing strangers comforting strangers, families remembering their loved ones and people coming out simply as a gesture of support for others. All is not lost in our community or our world. We can make an impact! Nevada is no longer at the very bottom of the list for suicide and that is due to the efforts of this great state and our community. If we can make this difference in our community, I am sure we can have an impact on suicides within the Washoe County Detention Center. We have to make an impact, families are depending on our complete focus on caring for their loved ones. This is a fight, a fight for life, it is combat!
As Washoe County Sheriff, I will bring in community assistance to combat suicide, mental illness and any other identifiable cause for preventable death.
Thank you for electing me!
