Daughter's First MLB Game
We had a blast at Nat's park tonight. Washington won 10-0, Gio Gonzales pitched a full 9 inning shutout and earned a towel full of shaving cream. Zimmerman went house in the 8th inning with a smoking line drive into the Nat's bull pen. Great experience for Lili, and she just LOVES Jayson Werth.

Home Town Baseball
The fun thing about having a small-town professional baseball team is that there's something to do on a cool August Saturday with your daughter and her best friend. After the game we were treated to an nice fireworks display, and then everyone was invited down to the field to meet the players. This is our team mascot, Pinch, a Maryland Blue Crab.

Yes, so much for the kids. They've got bumper boats where the left field bleachers should be, a rock climbing wall, and a bunch of bouncy things for the little kids too. The food is cheap, and kids get in free if they're wearing a team uniform. (Parking is free too).

My daughter's 12th birthday was spent in Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. I hadn't been to one in over 25 years and ended up getting my favorite Hot Fudge Nutty Nutty to celebrate.

RISK!
She took some risks and almost wiped me out. I pulled the right card at the right time and her defense dice got cold at the worst possible time.

...and yes, that's the Happy Whale above Norway, and those pieces are made of wood.

Blueberry, Almond and Oatmeal
My 11 year old daughter tried out one of her spa treatment recipes on Daddy. My face feels so smooth now, and I smell like blueberry pancakes...yum!

derecho storm aftermath

Lost power for 36 hours during the hottest days this year so far. These are 4 pine trees that I heard snapping when the wind gusted, immediately before everyone bolted down into the basement.

The top of another large pine twisted off and landed in my driveway, blocking us in. And the very large pin oak in our backyard lost some huge branches, ones that didn't break completely off, so will need a tree service to safely remove.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, and the damage can be cleaned up with a chainsaw and significant bonfire. Looking forward to toasting marshmallows over this one.

Many years of tree growth gone.

Grass is nice too.

Phillies Phan Phail
Just saw a bus full of Phillies fans on the side of the road north of Baltimore. Wasn't sweet enough the Orioles won the series. This is like extra chocolate sauce on my Sunday.

Never really cared for Phanatics, and after a few incidents in our ballpark the past couple of years, I've come to really dislike them. But you have to give it to them, they're fiercely loyal.

Introduction
I guess the avatar says a lot about me. When I'm not working I'm enjoying my two wonderful children. They're both well beyond Sesame Street age, but giving Elmo a big hug and lift with both of them there was a highlight of my life, and hopefully theirs. I grew up loving Grover, but learned to enjoy Elmo through time spent with my children when they were little.

I try to get the most enjoyment out of life when I'm not working, so you can say I work to live. Enjoyment comes in many forms to include encouraging my son during his lacrosse games, cultivating my daughter's obsession with creating her own math problems and puzzles, and hopefully supporting my wife in her trials and tribulations taking care of her elderly mother who has dementia.

I was once a photographer, and worked in a darkroom creating photos for politician's constituents. Once a photog, always a photog, but now I only dabble, and never with paper and chemicals. Sadly photography's barely a hobby and more of a neglected family history project.

I tend to share dissimilar views of religion and politics with my closest friends, but that never gets in the way of our friendship. Where our likes and dislikes converge is the basis for lifelong relationships, and although these special people are few, they will always hold a place in my heart and mind.

Passion beyond my human family and friends includes my love of [certain] animals. Our animal family includes: Nan the 3-Legged Mountain Dog, Autumn Pinellope the Hedgehog, Bob the Land Snail and Gary-not-Bob the other snail. Okay, I admit, I'm not a cat person. They tend to make me sneeze while my throat swells shut, so I have a good reason.

Finally, I'm fascinated by our universe on both the macro and micro level. The hugeness and smallness, variety of scale, is amazing. That we actually created or discovered things like wheels, spears, lawn mowers, fiberglass, electron microscopes, space ships, tennis rackets, black holes, supernovae...the list goes on and on, from sticks and rocks just blows my mind.

I can only wonder, "What's next?"
