Flood Preparedness
Floods are among the most frequent and costly natural disasters. Flooding often occurs following a hurricane, Tropical Storm, or several days of sustained rain. Flash floods occur suddenly, due to rapidly rising water along a stream or low-lying area. We have put together a few precautions you may want to take in the event of flooding below:
• Please make sure that all personal belongings left on patios are placed inside your apartment.
• Assembling an emergency preparedness kit - http://www.redcross.org/…/prep…/be-red-cross-ready/get-a-kit
• Familiarize yourself with relocation routes /evacuation routes and centers - http://www.getagameplan.org/downloads/evacGuideSouthwest.pdf
• Fill your car's gas tank, in case you need to evacuate.
• Bring your companion animals indoors and maintain direct control of them. Be sure that your pet emergency kit is ready to go in case of evacuation - http://www.redcross.org/…/prepare…/pet-disaster-preparedness
• Unplug small appliances to reduce potential damage from power surges that may occur.
• Place important personal documents, valuables and vital medical supplies into a waterproof case in an accessible location.
• Monitor your local radio for warnings and advice or visit the National Hurricane Center at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
• Pack warm clothing, essential medication, valuables and personal papers in waterproof bags along with your emergency kit.

Did you know?

Louisiana State Troopers announced that their officers are now enforcing the law against using a phone while driving. You may be unaware that last August the law pertaining to texting while driving was escalated, making it now a primary offense. Prior to this, drivers had to be pulled over for a primary violation in order to be ticketed for distracted driving.

Drivers who are convicted will face a fine of $175 if it’s a first offense and $500 for every offense after that. If the texting driver is involved in a crash, the fine is doubled. Moreover, the ticket will also be reported to the driver’s insurance company which will result in increased premiums.

If you were involved in an accident caused by a distracted driver, give Craig a call. He and his team are experienced at handling distracted driver personal injury cases.
