"Talking about housing the London, cllr Robert Davis said: 'What we really need is affordable housing, not just social housing, for people who are in their first job, have just got a basic, simple job and a salary of £50,000 to £80,000 a year.'"

"Even with the changes in place, prices will still rise by an average of around £70"

I noticed myself on BBC news this morning that the energy companies simply said they would "reduce their cost increases" thanks to the removal of the green levies. They weren't agreeing to any price reduction, only smaller price increases. So they'll still profit the same amount as before, and we wont see any reduction in bills - in fact we will still get increases. And nothing said about how this will hurt our environmental commitments.

Jeremy Hunt has been told in court that he acted illegally in closing Lewisham A&E - twice (he appealed, and failed). So now, having been told twice that he acted illegally, he’s trying to change the law. He wants to bring in a "hospital closure clause" to give him new legal powers to shut A&Es like Lewisham

What, exactly, will be covered in the "extremist" remit? Because to me it looks like an easy way to get censorship in place, and then slowly increase it to cover anything the government doesn't agree with.

"the government has to borrow from these private banks, who only have value because the government is backing them" (paraphrased)

"the loan provider of the PFI scheme (the Bank) which retains ownership of the asset (the school or hospital) for at least the term of the loan (25-30 years) or in the case of default."

So we (the tax payer) are borrowing money from banks at over double the rate of interest we otherwise could, so we can build a school or hospital, and then end up giving the school/hospital to the bank because we fail to pay back all the money on the the interest.

We borrow £54.7bn and pay back £301bn. Then the government uses the failure of these schemes (due to being unable to pay back the massive interest) as a reason why we should be privatising more. AND the money borrowed and owed in this way is NOT counted in the governments debt figure, so they can use it to pretend they are reducing debt.

"There are no political priorities which would excuse this behaviour from Britain. It would be better to allow dozens of fakes into the country than allow this to happen to one man who was telling the truth."

While the kittens are cute, their desire to play with tissues has led to some impressive shenanigans. It was bad enough when they learned they could get them out of the tissue box, but on Saturday one of them came downstairs with a toilet roll she'd stolen from the bathroom....
