Victoria Falls is absolutely amazing. I got to the gate at 5:50am and was first into the park when it opened at 6. I had the whole place to myself. To view Victoria Falls for the first time, even in the dry season, is a sight to behold! It is truly something special that everyone should have on their bucket list!

I witnessed a beautiful sunrise and stayed in the small park all day until it closed 5 minutes before sunset. It was hard to leave the park before the sun disappeared, but I left with a number of keepers.

I got this shot in the last half hour of the day, as the sun was sinking towards the Zimbabwean horizon. The key for this photo was to shoot it before the sun got too low as the golden light in the mist soon disappeared in the shadow of Livingstone Island.

Check it out in higher quality on my website here: http://bit.ly/afternoongold

If you haven't circled +Jim Nix already, you really should. Even if only for the chance to win a $300 bullet proof hard drive. But he does have some pretty sweet photos too!

I think this is one of my favourite photos I've ever taken to date!

This photo was taken at Shingle Splitters Point on Lake Macquarie, NSW Australia. The location is surprisingly good for stars... While there is plenty of light pollution around, my camera will still pick up the Milky Way nice and bright.

I was right out the end of the point so I could get the water on both sides of the photo and composed the shot so the land would lead off to the right giving the Milky Way room to shine.

Stars near home above a few random pine trees. I lined up the milky way to fill the gap and fit in beautifully with the trees. I had to shoot at f/5.6 to avoid any coma with my new Nikkor 24mm AF-D. I'm looking at getting the Samyang 14mm instead (recommended by +David Kingham).

Thanks for hosting a fun photowalk +Elia Locardi! It was great to be able to get into the Opera House, and too bad we all split up in the rain. If nothing else, the rain did provide glistening surfaces for some sweet reflections!

Great to see you out there +Karl Lindsay! You're right, the rain did create some sweet reflections. Too bad the cruise ship blocked the red projector on the Opera House for a while.

Awesome story and images, Morkel! A few comments...

1. Who would stick around to take photos of an already dead impala.. haha. You should have told him to check out the one up the road..
2. When you say 'heavily cropped', how many megapixels have you reduced these to?
3. I can't believe your family waited with you that whole time! I'd say they are the patient ones!!

Thanks +Karl Lindsay - my family deserve many medals for putting up with my photographic obsession...

Some of the shots of the leopard approaching are heavily cropped but the sequence scaling the tree are cropped to about 70% of full frame...

Hi all. I'm currently in Australia, but moving to Zambia soon. I'm just getting into the night photography with my Nikon D600 so I hope I can keep sharing here. This is a recent one of the beach near my house.
