US marketers invest 88% of SEM budget on PPC to attract 6% CTR; 12% on SEO to attract 94% CTR. Source: Forrester Research, US Search Marketing Spend, 2011-2016 GroupM and Nielson, The UK Search Marketing Benchmark Report 2012
Crazy isn't it? I can plug the websites of famous SEO bloggers into our Site Auditor and find mistakes. Last September we found three broken links on Microsoft's home page (their country links). The average company needs to seriously work on optimizing their site for organic results before they spend any money on PPC. Results don't take 6 weeks anymore, like they used to when one had to wait for Google to reindex the web and "update". And starting a PPC campaign before one creates a G+ and Facebook Company Page with keywords on them, is like leaving money on the table of a poker game and buying a sandwich with your last dollar.
