Taking a stance on stances.
For those of you who may not have met me in person, I am what I like to call " wee ," and what most people call, "short." I am barely over 5' tall, and honestly don't have much of a reach when it comes to punching. Occasionally this can be an issue.. primar...

Whoo-hooo! Gonna get me a petite brown haired, brown eyed, tan skinned Barbie.
For decades, Mattel's famous line of Barbie dolls has been heavily criticized for perpetuating an unrealistic and unobtainable image of the female figure. And for some reason, the dolls' feet were ...

..if it doesn't say Microaggression, it's not the real thing!
EDIT : I wrote this post a while back, but didn't publish it because it was cathartic enough just to put it all down on paper (so to speak). But after reading an email sent to an organization to which I belong—requesting the help of "strong men," to help wi...

Hello, all. This is fundraising post, so feel free to skip the post if you are uninterested.

Still here? Awesome! I'm trying to raise funds for a fellow instructor who had a couple of really bad months and needs some help to get back on track. Please consider: a) purchasing a tee-shirt for yourself or a fellow female warrior and/or b) spreading the word to help raise funds.

Why this design? Glad you asked. I wanted to create something for my fellow female martial arts that was not either over-sexualized in design or specifically geared towards breast cancer campaigns. I'm not against either, it's just not my thing, and I figured other women might have the same request.

For whom am raising funds? I'm not outing anyone, because the person in question did not ASK me to do this, it's something I want to do. Rest assured the instructor in question is a great teacher and first class friend. Any extra funds will be funneled back into our dojo to purchase new equipment, defray rent costs, and keep the cost of classes low.

Like the shirt but want to make something more specific for your dojo? Let me know. I'm happy to work with you on using my design. Further questions, please comment or email me!
We are martial artists, we are more than a novelty, we are warriors, and we "fight like girls." The money raised from this shirt is going to pay for one of our instructor's bills after an injury and death in the family. Anything over our goal will be used to keep the cost of taking classes down.

These may not have been my reasons for studying the martial arts, but I have seen all of these archetypes in class. The Martial Arts chose me. ^_^

My children and I have been studying with Street Smart under Guro Gerson “Jayson” Pena for a number of years, and we could not be more thrilled to grow our martial arts experience under his tutelage. He is the epitome of a good instructor: he has a vast knowledge of martial arts, a gift for getting both kids and adults involved (mentally and physically) in the class, and can walk the fine line between structure and fun like a tightrope. After just one class, you will be HOOKED.
