You can take this quote two ways, The first is just the way that it sounds… Let me be totally consumed with my desire, and my “quest” you might say, to know God, to become more like Christ… To seek Him with my whole heart, and to lay aside the cares of this life, to put away the things of this world. Let my desire to know God make the things of this earth grow dim. And as this Glory shines into my life, that I would no longer see, or be affected by this world. I won’t be a thermometer anymore, but a thermostat.
The other way might be a little more abstract, but I read this quote in the context of mission work. And so what came to me when I first read it was this... Instead of focusing on the world, and trying to save the world, whole nations, or people groups. He is saying, let me forget about this…and be totally consumed with Christ, and as I am totally filled, overflowing with His life, then those around me will be changed, and will be affected in a real way!
