In a somewhat amazing turn of events Nvidia have been granted allowance from Apple to develop official drivers for the macOS platform again. Well done Apple. The Titan Xp regardless of platform will hopefully be a phenomenal card!

So what does all of this new discussion that Apple has created with the limited information on the new Mac Pro really mean. Rumours will as always build up until its release that Apple have quoted as some time soon but not in this year. It will as it has done already be leaving most creative industries that have to a certain degree waited since as early as 2012 scratching their heads as to what form factor it will take on and what it will be able to do. Of course the hype will build and the unveiling will happen but will it be a return to desktop power or a new fangled form over function design. We have listed out 10 of the additions we hope it will include to enable true workstation status again.
1. PCIe slots (3.0 or 4.0) Minimum of 6 to enable at least dual, double height GPU's and a few spare for either flash storage, video capture or audio DSP.
2. Thunderbolt 3.0/USB C-type
3. Dual 10GB ethernet
4. Support for Dual Xeon E5/E7 CPU
5. Minimum 16 ram slots
6. Rack-mount option
7. Purpose built external PCIe expansion via TB3
8. 3rd party GPU support with driver support (i.e Apple investing in non exclusive manufacturers such as Nvidia to develop official compatibility)
9. Realistic price point
10. Open ended design that allows for easy upgradability
We don't feel any of the above are luxurious additions and hope that at least some standards in design are re-introduced so the Mac Pro can fit back into our working lives again without fear of being stuck in a dead end road with proprietary design and components. All will be revealed, hopefully soon.
