Gharials, the second largest type of crocodiles found in the world, were in the brink of extinction in 1970 es.
Crocodile breeding center at Chitwan national park head quarter have been working to reduce the threat of extinction by reducing poaching, habitat protection and captive breeding. Ranching operations launched collected eggs from the wild and raised the off springs in the captivity to protect them from natural predators. There two crocodile breeding centers in Nepal at Chitwan national park and Bardia national park.
Recently this species has moved from Endangered to Critically Endangered on the 2007 Red List of endangered species of animals and plants issued by the World Conservation.

April 25 Earthquake did lots of damages and lose of lives in Nepal. However the tourism of Nepal is not out. Just 12 out of 75 districts were affected. Most popular trekking trails of Annapurna had no effect and there were trekkers through out the tremor. Everest base camp and Langtang region had avalanches, which have been cleared and trails are reopen. Pokhara, Lumbini and Chitwan had no effect and were continuously visited by tourists escaping aftershocks in Kathmandu.
Heritage sites of Kathmandu suffered some damages, few temples collapsed and the rubble made it look miserable. But two months after the major earthquake, heritage sites of Kathmandu are ready to take tourists. Its medieval fragrance hasn't changed much. Watch the video.
