Ganoderma species Fungus - It is a basidiomycete. It is considered a polypore or bracket or shelf fungus. It grows in a fan shape out from the tree or substance. Ganoderma is derived from the Greek ganos meaning shiny or sheen, derma meaning skin. Ganoderma zonatum is the cause of Butt rot in Palm trees. 4 - 5 feet of the trunk gets infected and rots.
