Hello all, I know I've been hiding in obscurity all month, but I assure you, I'm very much alive. In fact, I've been hard at work on something new for you to read. Here's an excerpt from my current project, Rebirth, an Arcturian Bloodlines prequel.
A flicker of movement was the only warning Vincent had before the elder threw him into one of the support beams holding up what was left of the upper floor. The wood splintered and large slivers dug deep into his back. He wheezed as the breath was forced from his lungs for the second time that night. His body ached everywhere, and he knew he had to have broken at least a few bones.

There was no time for a reprieve.

Dante was on him in an instant, hauling him to his feet and slamming him against another beam. “You will give me what I want. This is your last chance – tell me where the descendant is now, or I will personally ensure your death is painfully slow.”

Vincent stared impassively back, a glow of a lantern – the very same lantern his mother had lit earlier – catching the corner of his eye. The last Monaghan almost smiled. Even in death, his mother was still looking out for him. “Kill me then,” he goaded. “I won’t talk. Live for eternity never knowing where to find her.”

The elder roared in fury, and the hunter wasted no time, springing into action. He shoved against Dante, causing the vampire to stagger back a step in surprise. It gave Vincent the moment he needed to seize the lantern from its hanging hook and shatter the glass dome shielding the flame.

“Don’t you dare!” Dante hissed, his lips peeling back from his teeth and making his face seem more rabid animal than human.

Vincent smiled triumphantly. “I am ready to die. My oath remains unbroken.”

Dante lunged for the hunter, moving faster than the blink of an eye, his hands seizing his prey by the shoulders. Vincent wrested an arm free just as the elder’s fangs plunged into his neck. He shoved the vampire away from him, shuddering from the pain. His enemy stared back at him, his blood dripping from the elder’s lips.

With all the strength he had left, Vincent raised the lantern. “Go to hell and take your friends with you, you son of a bitch!”
