Food is great, really nice variety and quality food. My only issue is that I find it far too overpriced for what you get. There are a lot of other places that have great quality sushi in the city that are half the price. Great for a special night out or if you're not concerned over price.

Happy hour specials are outstanding. Refreshing and creative mules. Excellent sushi. For basics, hands down my favorite shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. The BBQ portion is quite cool too. Lots of unique options.

This place does tend to get busy, but if you can, try to get a table upstairs for a nice view. You have to try the Alligator Rib with sweet potato mash, hard boiled egg, chive, tempura water cress, and balsamic soy reduction. If you go with a group, it's best to share dishes.

It's expensive for what you get and the food is just okay, if not a bit off-putting. We came here for the happy hour specials and we were seriously unimpressed with the oysters. Instead of the typical horseradish sauce, they put in some gross green onion, roe, lime, horseradish thing and it was totally unappealing. No need to ruin oysters with excessive garnishes and sauces! Don't let them goad you into getting the black rice on your sushi - it doesn't taste very different from white rice and it's more expensive (unless you're a supertaster, I guess). Prosciutto-wrapped scallops were overdone and a bit soggy...

Love this place. This is probably one of my favorite restaurants. Their happy hour is the bee's knees. $1 oysters, 4$ shrimp tempura rolls and duck yaki soba... Amazing. Their service is always nice and friendly as well. However, even when it's not busy and you request an end table, they get an attitude or won't accommodate you. I don't need to sit right next to someone when there are plenty of other open tables. Please fix this.

We had a great time at Union. Delicious food and excellent service. We started with Happy Hour Appetizers and drinks and worked our way through the menu, more apps, salads, rolls, and skewers. Loved the oysters, lamb, filet, and scallops.

This was my first sushi experience in Chicago. I've had my far share of sushi/sashimi and I all I can say is Union Sushi held its own and shined. The service was great, our waitress was prompt to make sure we had everything we needed and our table cleared of finished items. We sat at the bar and conversed with a head chef; instead of ordering off the menu we chose to do chefs choice. The spread of sashimi was delicious. We also were served beef tongue, short rib, and an amazing melon ice cream for desert. Did I mention the drinks were great too? The list of Mules was great, I would recommend the Horsefeather. Overall, the atmosphere was great, the service was professional and friendly, and the food delicious.

Absolutely love happy hour oysters and shrimp tempura rolls are great. Moscow mules currently is delicious. The best Godzilla rolls on black rice you will find. VERY particular if you don't have reservations which I highly recommend. Great music, great service. Ambiance is amazing.

The food was superb (black rolled sushi very creative). The mixed drinks also superb. Congratulations to the mixologist for such a nice job. We are definitely going back.

As I always say, it's nice when you have a rapport with the Sushi restaurant you frequent most. Because I have family in Chicago that regularly go to Union Sushi, upon arrival we were greeted with open arms. There was 5 of us in our dinner party. The atmosphere is very trendy modern.
We had our fill of sake and sushi. Uni, Masago, Salmon, Toro Sushi, Yellowtail and Salmon Sashimi, Happy Hour $1.00 Oysters, Dragon and Shrimp Tempura Rolls all very fresh and very good.
Atmosphere is fun and upbeat. Service excellent, all Sushi, Sashimi and Rolls were very good. Next visit to Chicago I'm there again!

Excellent review by Hollina U.,

The shrimp tempura happy hour deal here is awesome---- it's one of the best shrimp tempura I've ever had--- so crispy and crunchy on the outside!
Like everywhere else in Chicago, the mussels here are microscopically small-- I don't know why I keep on ordering them hoping to be surprised. The truffled tuna was overrated, and just whatever to me. The other sushi we tried-- godzilla or dragon, can't remember what it was-- was really good.
Service was pretty good. Definitely a popular happy hour spot, because it was packed when we walked in at 6 and emptied out a little after 7.

Hands down, this is the best sushi in Chicago. We love the variety of rolls you can order, in addition to alligator and other interesting plates made for sharing. This has been a fun spot to bring family and friends to on more than one occasion.

Positive review by Kim N.,

I was looking for another modern sushi restaurant to dine during my last night in Chicago. Considering that Momotaro is my favorite, I wanted something similar where they weren't known for just their rolls. I dropped in an hour before closing and sat at the sushi bar by myself. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offered Japanese whiskey flights so I ordered one to go with my meal.
I really enjoyed the oysters (east coast) - tasted fresh, sweet, and delicious. The King crab legs were awesome and I consider them the highlight of my meal. I've never had beef tongue served in chunks rather than thinly sliced so I thought it was different. I prefer it thinly sliced.
I order some sushi and sashimi, served 2 piece per order. I ordered salmon nigiri, uni nigiri, sweet shrimp sushi w/fried heads, salmon sashimi, and fluke sashimi. Every piece was very fresh, except the fluke which tasted fishy and very chewy rather than crunchy.
Service was great, constantly had servers removing finished plates. My only complaint was the intervals between courses. I ordered the oysters at least five mins before the rest of my meal. The oysters were served exactly five minutes before the rest of the meal...and the rest (from robata to sushi) which all literally served 3 minutes apart. When dining solo, this causes most of my food to get cold when it should be hot. I would definitely come back to dine but know that I will need to pace my orders as this is not their method of service.

Excellent review by Yu H.,

They have a great happy hour deal with both drink and food specials. The shrimp tempura rolls and beef skewers are each half off, which is a great deal. We had a bunch of both since they were both delicious. We also had one of spicy shrimp rolls, which was the best thing we had all night. We definitely wanted to try more rolls but had no more room in our stomachs. We didn't have a chance to try any of the drinks, but we definitely will next time.

This place is Fire. Oysters are so good and different compared to any other restaurant. The beef tongue is tender and spiced to perfection. 5-6:30pm $1 oysters along with other specials. I will be back:)
