My husband and I go there at least twice a month and never have I felt more unwelcome at an establishment. It took 7 minutes for Alaina to come introduce herself and when she did she said the bartender will be taking care of us. It took him 5 additional minutes to get to our table and when he walked over he was literally glaring at us, but when I made eye contact with him the glare vanished. We were there for an hour and 15 minutes and we spent about 15-20 minutes eating. the rest was us waiting on food and the check. I had the endless boneless wings, and when we first got there was told by Alaina, that they had the bone in, then a few minutes later said they did not. I had 3 refills and I waited 20 minutes for Sam to come to reappear to get my refill order. Instead of eating there and being glared at, I ate my wings at home where the only one that will judge me is my cat.

The only part of this experience that wasn't nasty was the beer i ordered, and the margarita my wife ordered. We hadn't ever been there before so we decided to try the 2 for 20 deal, figuring it would be good if its their special and they're hyping it on tv and so on. Had to be safe right? Wrong. We ordered wings as an appetizer. They brought us spinach dip. Cold spinach dip. I have no idea who got our wings, if anyone. We're not really the type to complain so we just ate it. It had big chunks of canned spinach and artichokes in it. I don't know if that's what makes a spinach dip good or not and I don't really care since I didn't order it. Then the entrees came. The wife's chicken basket was full of iron hard chicken strips that you could drive nails with and fries that were clearly and obviously cooked hours earlier. The chicken was so hard it was inedible. I ordered bourbon chicken and shrimp. Maybe you're supposed to have some bourbon while ya choke that stuff down, because the chicken was covered in charred nasty black grill slime, and it tasted like everything everyone else that had been there recently had eaten. The shrimp were really overcooked. The whole mess was served on a bed of raw onions with a side of at-least-a-day-old home fries. There was no seasoning. There was no sauce. Just gritty black grill scrapings and ancient potatoes. We were so disgusted we didn't even box up that swill to take home for the dog. We just payed and left. Essentially, I payed $30 for a beer. You can imagine how often I'll be back. Really the best part of the meal was the cold chunky spinach dip that I didn't even order. It's also worth mentioning that maybe some people enjoy being seated under a speaker blaring hipster music, but I am not one of them. They also insisted on seating people as close together as possible, despite the place being full of empty tables. We specifically asked for a quiet booth, and were seated under the garbage music and then surrounded by the inane conversations of people who think the food at applebees isn't deplorable. I won't complain about less than perfect atmosphere if the food is good, but it wasn't. It was disgusting. When I payed the check I felt like I was being robbed. It made me very angry. I didn't complain, but I should have. When I leave a restaurant I want to feel full and satisfied. Fat and happy. I didn't feel that way leaving applebees. I felt angry and robbed. I don't feel at all that I'm being overly critical when I say that if I owned that establishment and saw people being served what we were served I would march back into the kitchen and fire the entire cook staff. I mean, is it really so hard to keep at least one person on the premises that knows how to cook? I dont know but I suspect had I investigated the matter I would have found a kitchen full of migrant workers who can't read speak or spell "artichoke". I've learned my lesson. Several of the popular restaurants in springfield are something of a ripoff, but applebees wins the "I felt angry and robbed" award. The lesson here is to stick to the chinese buffets. That way, if you get something nasty, just push it aside and get a plate of something else. You cant do that at applebees though. You just have to sit there trying to power through a gritty, burnt, unseasoned, sauceless chicken breast on raw onions with home fries that are older and tougher than any shoes I own. The more of it I ate, the emptier I felt. I tried to eat it. I really did. I tried to find something good to say, but after about two minutes of watching my wife try to gnaw off a piece of that stone hard chicken finger like a one armed drunk fightin a bottle of night train I just said screw it and left.

Nice, lively atmosphere for families or basic casual dining with overly friendly waitstaff (the guy serving the couple next to us actually loudly exclaimed "super duper!" several times). I ordered the salmon with seasonal vegetables on a bed of rice pilaf. My salmon and my dad's steak were both dry. The seasonal vegetables on my plate were steamed with no kind of seasoning or sauce and no taste--at least they were not overcooked. The tastiest food on my plate was the rice! The food is very average, or even subpar, so the best thing about Applebee's is the atmosphere, the bar, and the multiple televisions.

Found a hair in two separate entree's on Sept 1, 2011. Yuck, I will never eat there again. We did nothing to make anyone mad but we do suspect food tampering may have occurred. We later found out that someone we know may have recieved an illness from eating there a few days earlier. Reports have been made to the local health department. Service was also below average.
