With Summer fast approaching, here are a few plumbing tips to follow

Is your plumbing ready for summer? Here are some tips to help avoid plumbing disasters so you can enjoy the weather and time with family and friends:
Be smart when it comes to putting things in the garbage disposal after family parties and barbeques. Garbage disposals can handle small amounts of food, but too much food, or improper use can put added stress on their blades and cause the sink to stop up. Always dispose of cooking oil and grease in your trash can to avoid a thickening effect in your pipes, and never put animal bones, fibrous foods like corn husks and potato peels, or pasta and rice inside your disposal.
Keep an eye out for suddenly slow drains in tubs, sinks, and toilets. If the drain in your tub or sink suddenly becomes slow, it could indicate a blockage inside the pipes. However, blockages aren’t always due to things like food particles, hair, or soap. Blockages that form during the summer may indicate rainwater getting into your pipes due to poor drainage on your property. It could also indicate growing tree roots that breached the walls of your pipes and partially or completely blocked their water flow. Call a plumber immediately if you notice sudden and unexplained drain backups.
Use caution before mowing or digging in your yard if you have a sprinkler system.
Sprinkler systems are a great way to keep your lawn lush and green during even the hottest and driest parts of summer, but they are easily damaged if you’re not attentive to their location. Too often, homeowners accidentally damage their sprinkler heads and pipes while planting trees and shrubs or by driving their mowers over them. Make sure that you and everyone else in your family who plants or mows is aware of their location.
Not only to we use more electricity during the summer—we also use more water. Because the demand for water increases during the warm months, even minor plumbing issues can be a disaster for busy families—and those minor problems can quickly turn into major problems if they aren’t addressed immediately. Don’t let a slow or clogged drain, low water pressure, or an unreliable faucet turn into a headache this summer. Call Chick’s Plumbing today at (949) 496-9731.

Turkey Day
Thanksgiving is a time of enjoyment with family and friends. Don’t let plumbing problems interfere with you and your guest’s day.
The two most common plumbing problems on Thanksgiving Day are with the kitchen sink and the toilets.
The best to avoid problems with your kitchen sink is to use your garbage disposal to dispose of the little pieces of food you cannot pick up and throw in the trash. If you have to run the disposal put the small pieces of food in a little at a time then run the water for 2-3 minutes while the disposal is turned on.
Do not throw bones, pastas, grease, asparagus, potato skins, celery, corn husks, artichokes, turkey skin, rice or eggs shells down the disposal.
Toilet stoppages and overflows may be prevented by never flushing paper towels, wipes (yes, that means even the “flushable” wipes), or trash down the toilet. The only thing that should be flushed down the toilet is toilet paper in reasonable amounts.
If you notice any slow drains prior to company coming over, give us a call! We will also be available on Thanksgiving Day although the service call will be at holiday rates.
Happy Thanksgiving!

“Flushable” wipes not so flushable.

People are using the “flushable” wipes more and more. They are pre-moistened, soft, and easy to use. The problem is, those wipes aren’t “flushable” at all. They take a long time to break down and will stick to grease, roots, and other materials that are in that drainline causing a plumbing stoppage. The only thing that should be flushed down the toilet is toilet paper. It breaks down very quickly, and is much less likely to cause a stoppage (unless you use half a roll in one flush). If you are using the wipes, or someone in your household does, keep a covered trash can in the bathroom, next to the toilet so they can easily dispose of those wipes without putting them down the toilet.

These are some good tips.
Your hands aren't the only things that can spread germs throughout the kitchen! Keep surfaces and sponges sanitary with these expert tips. #eatright #foodsafety #cleaning

Many people do not realize that leaving the toilet lid open or a toilet not secured properly to the floor releases harmful germs and waste bacteria into the air.

Water saving toilets do not use a large amount of water to flush. We are saving water which is great; however, toilet bowls are not getting as clean as they used to. A loose toilet collects damaging bacteria build-up in the unsecured areas.

So CLOSE THOSE LIDS and SECURE THOSE TOILETS!! Call us out today if you suspect your toilet may not be secured properly (949) 496-9731!

Don't wear wet clothes!

Is your dryer not drying your clothes completely? Is it taking longer than 45 minutes to dry your freshly washed clothes? The problem may not be your dyer; it could be a clogged dryer duct. Most people clean their lint filter after every use; however, the majority of people rarely clean their dryer's duct. In addition to not drying your clothes correctly, a clogged dryer duct could be a fire hazard. A Chick's Plumbing technician can remove lint from around heating elements and ducts. We recommend cleaning your dryer duct at least once a year.

Cleaning your dryer duct annually will save you money and eliminate a fire hazard! Call us today to schedule an appointment (949) 496-9731!
