New tires are a big ticket item for most Calgary drivers. You’re not only concerned about the price, but you want to know that it’ll be a long time before you need to buy new tires again.
And of course there’s the safety aspect as well. The tires do a lot of work, they carry the weight of the vehicle and you and your passengers around Calgary. They need to be up to the task. You want to be sure they hold the road and provide good traction. Calgary drivers who carry heavy loads or tow a trailer need a high load tires to be up for the job.

The tire professionals think it’s important that Calgary drivers understand the effect of price on a tire’s performance and durability. The major tire brands sold in Calgary that you’re familiar with are known as Tier 1 tires. These tires are well-engineered and very high quality. Comparable tires are usually in the same price range from brand to brand.

Stepping down in price you come to private label tires. Some large Calgary tire store chains carry tires with the chain’s own brand. It’s important to know that most private label tires sold in the Calgary area are built by the same Tier 1 brands that you are familiar with, so they are a quality product. You can ask your ADAIR AUTO REPAIR tire professional who makes their private brand.

The lowest priced tires on the market are Tier 3 tires. These tend to be imported from China or South America. Since you get what you pay for, you can’t expect a Tier 3 tire to deliver the same performance and durability as the others. Hey, sometimes the budget will only allow for a Tier 3 tire. That’s OK because it’s a good thing to be driving with safe, new tires than pushing your old tires beyond their safety limits. But it’s good counsel to buy as much tire as you can afford, because it will be much less expensive in the long run. Your tires are the only part of your vehicle that touch the Calgary road. You’re only as safe as your tires are well built. Buy value – not price.

Your vehicle uses about 12,000 gallons of air for every gallon of fuel you burn (or 12,000 liters of air for every liter of fuel you burn). That's about 100 gallons (380 liters) of air every block. All that air needs to be filtered to keep your engine clean and your fuel economy good.

Give us a call at (403) 203-4999 and let us help keep you safely and economically on the road.

When should I change over to my summer tires ?
This is a question we get asked frequently.

When the weather is starting to warm up, but you think that there might be another bout of cool weather coming, it can be difficult to decide when you should bring your vehicle into the shop to have your winter tires replaced with your summer set.

There is a simple rule of thumb to take into consideration that makes the decision very simple: Once the average daily temperatures are over 7°C, it is time to make the changeover to summers or all-seasons.
All types of tires (winter, summer and all-season) start life with different rubber compounds. Each is optimized for a different temperature range. If you run a tire at speeds outside of its comfort zone, it reacts badly.

Summer tires in winter turn hard like hockey pucks; in winter, all-season tires start to lose grip as the temperature drop below +7C and are virtually useless for grip below -10C. Winter tires lose grip as the temperatures climb above 7°C. Just as all-seasons wear tread faster in winter, winters wear faster in summer.

This can be surprising, especially since they all look the same.
Bottom Line: As the weather warms up and the temperature is determined to stay above 7 degrees it is time to come in to have your winter tires swapped out.

Need your tires changed or are you due for your next regular maintenance, talk with our Service Advisors to book your appointment.
