> To describe sex work as “a job like any other job” is only a positive reframing if you consider a “job” to be a good thing by definition. In the real world, people do all sorts of horrible things they’d rather not do, out of desperation, for cash and survival. People do things that they find boring, or disgusting, or soul-crushing, because they cannot meaningfully make any other choice. We are encouraged not to think about this too hard, but to accept these conditions as simply “the way of the world”.

Vacation time. Plans made: from barely any to absolutely none. Aim: be in Berlin on Sunday week from now, and back home on Wednesday or Thursday after that. 80% chance of heading to Turku on Sunday, followed by boat to Stockholm on Monday.

Have to admit, this is a new low of pre-planning for me. Go me!

> The researchers note that the most striking difference between the top three pianists and the rest, was how they handled mistakes. It’s not that the top pianists made fewer mistakes in the beginning and simply had an easier time learning the passage.

> The top pianists made mistakes too, but they managed to correct their errors in such a way that helped them avoid making the same mistakes over and over, leading to a higher proportion of correct trials overall.
We've all heard the phrase 'practice smarter, not harder,' but what does that really mean? What does 'smarter' practice actually look like? A study of collegiate piano majors suggests that the key lies in how we handle mistakes.

"En oikeasti halua kuulua yrittäjäjengiin, jonka mielestä Suomi saadaan nousuun vain yrittäjien velvollisuuksia karsimalla. Hyvinvointivaltion puolustus on minulle ja firmalleni yksi tärkeimmistä arvoista. Haluamme maksaa veroja."

Best customer service I've witnessed in a while. Waiter to couple at table next to mine: "Are you sure you want that wine? I can get you better for the same price. That one is OK if you're doing a sauce."

Also, swordfish > tuna.

Two years ago me and +Ville Takanen  had the unique chance to run Jeepform game, "The Upgrade!", to a very, very awesome group of players (and audience!) in Seattle. Whole thing was organized and filmed by none other than +Peter Adkison . And here is the evidence for all to see.

Regardless of Peter saying at the start of the first video that we're close enough to the original creators of Upgrade!, I must apologise to Olle Jonsson, Thorbiörn Fritzon and Tobias Wrigstad for any violence done to the game. It is an awesome game, you should check it out (and whole bunch of other very cool Jeepform stuff) at http://jeepen.org/games/upgrade/

Honestly though, given the chance I'd do it all over again.

Something apparently co-produced by the Nordic broadcasting companies. Awesomeness, 3 episodes available so far, unfortunately spoken in Swedish and subtitled in Finnish only.

Now, this is a weird concept for a reality TV show..

"The concept is simple: find narrow-minded Americans and throw them into countries like Norway, Sweden and Denmark and watch them have panic attacks. It actually sounds like a lot of fun."
A Georgia-based fundamentalist pastor had his mind blown when he took a recent trip to Scandinavia and discovered, to his horror, that nobody hated gay people or believed God created the Earth in a...

"An Awful Week To Care About Video Games" -- an eye-opening article about the recent bullshit:

http://www.polygon.com/2014/8/28/6078391/video-games-awful-week
What an awful week for the culture that surrounds and influences video games. Last week, a game designer's personal life was exposed to the internet, and used to justify physical threats to both the...
